    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To join a plurality of images while the joined portions are made less conspicuous so as to display a single image. SOLUTION: In a multineck dathode-ray tube 10, a plurality of screens are formed by the scanning of a plurality of electron beams and a single screen image displaying is conducted by joining a plurality of screens. The scanning directions of the electron beams are set orthogonal to the arranged directions of the screens. An image converting section 30 generates divided image signals of plural divided screens having image directions that are matched with the direction of a single image from the image signals of a single screen. Moreover, the section 30 conducts conversion processes for the divided image signals and generates display image signals so that the image directions of the divided screens based on the divided image signals and the image directions of the plural screens formed by the scanning of the electron beams are made equal by controlling the writing direction of the divided image signals to an image memory section 33 and the reading direction from the section 33. Based on the display image signals, plural screens are formed by the scanning of the electrone beams to obtain a single image display.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality in the vicinity of a central part of an image plane using a simple constitution. SOLUTION: Deflection scanning in a belt-type region in the center part of an image plane of a cathode ray-tube is performed densely, and a correction means for image distortion, which is caused by the deflection scanning, is installed in a processing system of an image signal. Scanning line density is changed corresponding to a scanning position, in such a manner that the scanning line density becomes dense in the central part of an image plane, as compared to the peripheral part of the image plane. The density can be changed by controlling a deflection means. At the same time, image distortion is corrected by operating an image correcting means. That is, the pixel level at a new pixel position is calculated for a pixel position in the case of uniform image plate scanning, using a coefficient corresponding to the movement (spatial distance) of a pixel up to the new pixel. At the same time as the change in the position of scanning line, if an image is reproduced with the new pixel level by using pixels after the change, the apparent image quality in the vicinity of the center part of the image plane can be improved in a state with the image distortion being corrected.
