When the starting load is reduced, the upper limit transmission gear ratio smaller than the preset maximum transmission gear ratio is calculated and the vehicle is stopped at the upper limit transmission gear ratio. When the starting load is not reduced, the vehicle is stopped at the maximum transmission gear ratio.

SOLUTION: This belt type continuously variable transmission is provided with a bearing attaching hole 54, a rolling bearing 12, a bearing retainer 48 and a sealing cover 64. The rolling bearing 12 supports one end part of a primary shaft 4 equipped with a primary pulley 18 possible to rotate freely in a state fitted in the bearing attaching hole 54. The bearing retainer 48 is attached to the outside surface of the end wall 2a and holds the outside ring 12b of the bearing 12 between the supporting flange 52 and itself. The sealing cover 64 is attached on the outside surface of the end wall 2a and covers the one end part of the primary shaft 4 and the bearing retainer 48.

摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a secure sealing function while suppressing an implusive resistance resulting from the uneven size of a seal member, by contacting closely the side surface of the seal member and the right side and the left side surfaces of a peripheral groove, while partitioning a clearance between the outer peripheral surface in the radius direction of the seal member and the inner bottom surface of the peripheral groove of a transmission shaft. CONSTITUTION:A transmitting member 10 is spline-fitted to a transmission shaft 4 slide-operative along the axial direction. And a seal member 19 is provided to the spline-fitting part 18. In such a constitution, while the seal member 19 is fitted to a peripheral groove 20 formed on the inner surface of the transmitting member 10, it is fitted from the outer side to the spline-fitting part 18 of the transmission shaft 4 in the closely contacting condition. While a clearance is partitioned between the outer peripheral surface in the radius direction of the seal member 19 and the inner bottom surface of the peripheral groove 20, the left side and the right side surfaces 22 of the peripheral groove 20 and the side surface of the seal member 19 are closely contacted. Consequently, a deformation to the outer side in the diameter direction resulting form the uneven size of the seal member 19 is permitted while securing the sealing between the seal member 19 and the transmission shaft 4.
