    • PURPOSE: To simplify a circuit construction, reduce electric power loss, heighten reliability by providing a residual charge release means composed of a series circuit of a rectify element and a switch operating in a dead time period in which a switching element becomes off. CONSTITUTION: At the discharge time of a residual charge produced at the connection point of a high side drive circuit 1 and a low side drive circuit 3 of an inverter circuit, an off control switch 2 is brought into an off state, and a switching element QAH is brought into an on state. Entering the dead time period of a drive signal, a drive circuit is turned to an H level. This time, the switch 2 becomes on, and the residual charge at the middle point between the elements QAH and QBL is released within a short time. When the middle point between the elements QAH and QBL becomes the low side potential VL of the inverter circuit in the dead time period of the drive signal, a high side drive system operates taking the low side potential VL as a basis.

    • PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the safety with a simple structure by checking the detected signals of a current detecting means at every time of pulse generation of a generating means by a high voltage trigger and stopping the pulse generation after discharge lamp is lighted by a computer control means. CONSTITUTION:A computer control means 28 instructs high voltage trigger generating means 26, 27 to generate one high voltage trigger pulse. At every time of pulse generation, a current detection signal corresponding to the lamp current from a current detecting means 29 is checked to determine whether a discharge lamp 25 is lighted or not. In the case the lamp is not lighted, the control means 28 instructs to generate one more pulse and current detection signal is checked and in the case it is determined that lighting is done, pulse generation is immediately stopped. In this way, at every time a pulse is generated, whether lighting is done or not is determined, so that only the necessary minimum quantity of high voltage trigger is generated and safety is thus improved remarkably.
