    • PURPOSE:To make a device small in size and the cost low by providing a photo detector wherein light issued from a light source fixed on an end of a micro discharge tube array monitors light reflected on a record medium, and an actuator for controlling the distance between the micro discharge tube array and the record medium in accordance with the output of the detector. CONSTITUTION:An optical writing device is constituted of a micro discharge tube 6 arranged opposite to a record medium 5, a height control circuit 7, and an actuator 8. A semiconductor laser 13 as a light source is attached on one bevel of an angle-shaped section in a direction intersecting rectangularly the longitudinal direction of the micro discharge tube 6. On the other bevel, a photo detector 14, wherein light issued from the semiconductor laser 13 monitors light reflected on the face of the record medium 5, is attached. When the distance between the record medium 5 and the semiconductor laser 13 changes, the position of the light received at the photo detector 14 changes. Therefore, by monitoring the change of the output of the photo detector 14, change of the distance between the record medium 5 and the micro discharge tube array can be monitored and the distance is controlled by the actuator 8 in accordance with the output of the photo detector 14.

    • PURPOSE:To increase moving speed by disposing a stator having a plurality of electrodes on the insulating board of an electrostatic actuator employing an ultra-thin film, mounting a ferroelectric mover on the stator, and then moving the mover through polarization of ferroelectric material. CONSTITUTION:An actuator comprises a stator 7 and a mover 8 wherein the stator 7 comprises an insulating board having a surface buried, at a predetermined interval, with stripe electrodes 9 interconnected through electrode wires. A mover 8 made of ferroelectric material is mounted on the stripe electrodes 9. Consequently, the mover 8 is moved with repelling force or attracting force functioning between charges produced through polarization of the ferroelectric material of the mover 8 and charges produced at the electrode 9 of the stator 7. Since charging time for the mover 8 and supplementary charging time in the way of operation are not required and the mover 8 is simply required to be applied with an electric field higher than the coersive electric field or the ferroelectric material, operating speed can be increased.

    • PURPOSE:To detect the pyroelectric current flowing between a conductive substrate and a conductive film by heating a ferroelectric film with the Joule heat generated by the current flowing in a resistance layer from a conductive probe. CONSTITUTION:The conductive substrate 15 and conductive film 17 of the recording medium are previously impressed with the voltage at which an electric field above the anti-electric field of the ferroelectric film 16 is generated, by which the recording medium is put into a unidirecitonally polarized state. A voltage V1 is impressed between the conductive probe 23 and the conductive film 17 and a current I1 is passed through a resistance layer 18 into the film 17 by an electric discharge or tunneling from the tip of the probe 23. The Joule heat is generated in the part of the resistance layer 18 where the current I1 flows. The film 16 existing just thereunder is heated and the temp. is raised. The voltage generating the electric field which has the polarities meeting the information desired to be written and does not exceed the anti-electric field at room temp. is held impressed between the substrate 15 and the film 17 at this time and, therefore, all the polarization directions are the same. The parts where the temp. rises are reversed in the polarization directions and the pyroelectric current flowing between the substrate 15 and the film 17 is detected.

    • PURPOSE:To simplify an operation circuit by a method wherein corrugation is provided on the leg part of a moving unit which is touching a board on which the moving unit is placed in such a manner that a friction coefficient between the moving unit and the board is small to a direction to which the moving unit is to be moved and large to a direction opposite to it. CONSTITUTION:As the electrode parts 12 of a moving unit 10 are pulled toward stator electrode 16 when a voltage is applied between the stator electrode 16, the moving unit 10 expands vertically and contracts horizontally. At that time, the right side leg part 13 is pulled to a direction (b) and the left side leg part 13 is pulled to a direction (a). As a friction coefficient to the direction (b) is large, the right side leg part 13 does not move. As the friction coefficient to the direction (a) is small, the left side leg part 13 moves to the direction (a). On the other hand, when voltage application is discontinued, the moving unit 10 expands horizontally and is restored to an initial state but, because of the direction dependency of the friction coefficient, the right side leg part 13 moves to the direction (a) but the left side leg part 13 can not move to the direction (b).
