摘要： PURPOSE: To obtain a perfluorocyclopentene derivative containing thiophere rings at the α- and the β-positions, having a specific structure, high mol absorptivity coefficient and isomerization ratio to a ring opening substance, useful as a photochromic material having excellent contrast of image. CONSTITUTION: This derivative is shown by formula I or formula II (R1 is H or a lower alkyl; R2 is a lower alkyl; ring A and ring B may be either nonsubstituted or substituted with an alkyl) such as 1,2-bis[2,4-dimethyl-5-(4-(p-N, N-diethylaminophenylazo)phenyl)thiophen-3-yl]perfluorocyclopentene. For example, the derivative is obtained by subjecting a bisaminophenylthienylperfluorocyclopentene derivative of formula III and a compound of formula IV to azocoupling.

CONSTITUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I or II (R and R are each an alkyl; R and R are each H or an alkyl; R and R are each H or a halogen), etc., e.g. di(2,4,5-trimethyl-3-thienyl)perfluorocyclopentene. The compound is obtained by adding a strong basic compound such as n-butyl-lithium to, e.g. a compound of formula III in an inert organic solvent such as dry tetrahydrofuran at a low temperature (preferably about -60 deg.C), stirring the reactional mixture, then further adding and reacting perfluorocyclopentene therewith.

This compound is obtained by condensation reaction of an oxamoylbenzothiophene derivative of formula III with a thiophenyl-3-acetyl halide derivative of formula IV (X is a halogen) in the presence of an acid acceptor and simultaneous cyclodehydration reaction of the product. The compound of formula IV is preferably obtained by introducing a chloromethyl in the 3-position of the thiophene ring, substitution of the chlorine with a cyano group and hydrolysis of the cyano group, finally conversion of the carboxyl group to an acid halide.

Thus, a new anthracene derivative complex compound of formula IV (M is electron acceptor) can be obtained from the compound of formula I and an electron acceptor. The compound of formula IV has a specific absorption capable of non-destructive reading-out in a long wave length region. The compound of formula I is transferred to a decolored state by the illumination of ultraviolet light and returns to the original colored (yellow) state by heat.

At the time of regeneration, the part of the stationary optical state is selectively heated and irradiated with regeneration light to regenerate the recorded state and the nonrecorded state.
