    • PURPOSE:To secure a sufficient spacing between a shaft member and an electrical component part mounted on a carrier at the time of rotation and contrive to reduce the size of a printer and to enhance operability, by a construction wherein the entire body of a carrier is rotated with a shaft member provided at a rear part as a fulcrum. CONSTITUTION:The rear end part of a carrier 17 is slidably supported by the shaft member 3, and a projection 22 is provided at the center of a front end part 21 of the carrier 17, which projection 22 is fitted into the recess 23 provided in a permanent magnet 20 fixed to a guide member 19, whereby the carrier 17 is securely engaged to the guide member 19. Accordingly, the carrier 17 is appropriately moved in the direction of an arrow A or B through the guide member 19 and a belt 5 by driving a spacing motor 6. To replace a type wheel 12, the carrier 17 is rotated in the direction of an arrow F with the shaft member 3 as a fulcrum. In this case, the locus of the shaft member 3 with respect to an encoder 10 becomes as indicated by an arrow G, so that the spacing therebetween is not reduced. Accordingly, wires for this part can be easily inserted, and it is unnecessitated to enlarge the carrier 17 in size.

    • PURPOSE:To set a ribbon stably and easily, by a method wherein a ribbon- feeding system for a serial printer is constituted by providing a detecting means for the opening and closing of a printer cover and means for reducing a locking current in response to a detection output indicating the opening of the cover. CONSTITUTION:By the operation of a switch 12 operated in response to the opening and closing of the printer cover, a pulse motor 3 is driven by a motor- driving circuit 15 through a ribbon feed time pulse generating circuit 13 when the cover is closed, whereby the ribbon is fed, and a locking action is performed when the ribbon is stopped. On the other hand, when the cover is opened, the circuit 13 is controlled through a cover-open time controlling circuit 14, thereby clearing or weakening the lock, and a manual adjustment through a feeding knob 6 is easily performed. Accordingly, the ribbon can be set stably and easily without using any ratchet mechanism which is unstable.

    • PURPOSE:To enable to markedly simplify a driving circuit, by a method wherein a driving circuit for a pulse motor consists of an open loop, and the timing of changing over each phase of the pulse motor is made to conform to speed characteristics of a controlling means for velocity and position of a carriage. CONSTITUTION:The number of command steps according to the speed characteristics of control of velocity and position, namely, a phase change-over time table according the velocity is given from a CPU to an amplifier 1, and the pulse motor 2 is driven. In the pulse motor 2, a rotor 22 comprised of an NS magnet is provided for an exciting coil with four phases 211-214, a pulse voltage is supplied by two-phase excitation of four phases A-D, and a rotating magnetic field is provided. Printing is conducted in a constant-velocity movement in the case of velocity control, and is conducted at a stop position in the case of position control. The former mode is high in speed but low in accuracy, while the latter mode is favorable in accuracy although low in speed. Accordingly, an encoder, a wave-shaping circuit and a controlling circuit for velocity and position which are required in a closed circuit are unnecessitated, and the driving circuit can be markedly simplified.

    • PURPOSE:To enable ribbon-feeding of enough quantity as well as printing of high quality through early start-up of a motor by driving the same with a larger value of a driving current or longer continuation of time thereof than usual value immediately after a printing instruction is given. CONSTITUTION:In case when a machine-ready signal is kept impressed on an information-interval supervising circuit SCC, the presence of the machine-ready signal is checked on the start-up of flip-flop (FF) according to the start-up of a machine-ready signal A. And the presence is judged to indicate that the printing is being operated, while the absence being judged to indicate that the printing stops, and, based on the judgement, either a strongly exciting circuit SEC or a weakly exciting circuit WEC is selected at an excitation designating circuit EDC. When the judgement is made by the excitation designating circuit EDC, an excitation designating signal C is given and the strongly exciting circuit SEC is selected, which prepares for driving a motor M through an amplification circuit AMP. On a subsequent machine-ready signal starting up, an exciting current as D is impressed on the motor M. The excitation designating signal disappears on the subsequent excitation-judging signal starting up, and the weakly exciting circuit WEC drives the motor M.
