摘要： PURPOSE: To obtain a color display device of a reflection type which can change color and image of a display part by an electrical means. CONSTITUTION: The display part 10 has a cell 3 having opposed surfaces 1a, 1b. At least a part of one 1a of these opposite surfaces is transparent and the part 1b of the other surface facing this transparent part 1a is opaque. Respective transparent counter electrode layers 5, 6 are formed between the transparent part 1a and the opaque part 1b facing this part. An electrosensitive type optical functional fluid compsn. 4 formed by including EA particles in an electrical insulating medium is packed between the counter electrodes 5 and 6. The EA particles 42 included in this fluid 4 and the opaque part 1b or the EA particles 42 and the electrical insulating medium are colored into the colors different from each other.

摘要： PURPOSE: To obtain a traffic information display device of a reflection type capable of changing colors and images of a display part by on/off of electric fields. CONSTITUTION: The color display part 3 consists of laminated cells 13 and 23. This cell 13 has the display part 12 of which one of the two surfaces consist of a transparent part 11a and the other an opaque part 11b. A transparent reference electrode layer 15 is formed on the one surface 11a and a counter electrode layer 16 on the other surface 11b. An electrosensitive type photofunctional fluid compsn. 14 contg. electric field arranging type particles 42 is packed into the cell. The electric field arranging type particles 42 and the opaque part 11 are colored to different colors. The cell 23 is similar to the cell 13 except that both of the two surfaces 21a and 21b are transparent parts. The electrosensitive type photofunctional fluid compsn. 24 in the cell 23 is different in color from the compsn. of the cell 13.

The ER inorganic substance forming the surface layer 3 means an inorganic substance displaying the ER effect at the time of dispersing its solid grain into an electric insulating medium and an inorganic ion exchanger consisting of polyvalent metal hydroxide, a hydrotalcite group, polyvalent metal acid salt, or the like and silicagel can be given as examples.

To be concrete, for example, a perfluorocarbon or a fluorocarbon is used as the component A. Inorganic or organic composite particles comprising a core material composed of an organic polymer compound such as poly(meth)acrylic ester and a surface layer composed of an inorganic substance having electrorheological effect such as a hydroxide of a polyvalent metal are preferable as the component B. The content of the component B in the composition is preferably 10-40wt.%.
