    • PURPOSE: To provide a novel controller and control method for a transmitted light quantity capable controlling the transmitted light quantity. CONSTITUTION: This controller includes an electrosensitive type optical functional fluid compsn. 16 which is prepd. by incorporating solid particles having an electric field arrangement effect into an electrical insulating medium, a hollow housing body 18 which houses the electrosensitive type optical functional fluid compsn. 16 therein and at least a part of the two opposite surfaces of which are formed transparent and transparent conductive layers which are formed in at least the transparent parts of the housing body 18. The reference transparent conductive layer 25 is formed on the one surface of the housing body 18 and the counter transparent conductive layer 26 facing the reference transparent conductive layer 25 is formed on the other surface of the housing body 18. The non-counter transparent conductive layer 27 is formed in the part not formed with the counter transparent conductive layer 26. The controller further includes a changeover switch 28 to change over whether the reference transparent conductive layer 25 is energized or whether the reference transparent conductive layer 25 and the non-counter transparent conductive layer 27 is energized.
