    • PURPOSE: To provide an adjusting method in which the optical axis of a Z beam-type headlight is adjusted properly. CONSTITUTION: The position of the center of gravity G of a region B in which the irradiation pattern of a headlight irradiating a screen is at a prescribed illuminance or higher is found. An isoilluminance curve C which has an illuminance at a prescribed ratio with reference to the illuminance of the center of gravity G is found. When the ratio is set properly, the isoilluminance curve C agrees nearly with the light and shade boundary line of the irradiation pattern. The position of an inflection point Ca on the isoilluminance curve C in a stepped region a3 in which the stepped part of the light and shade boundary line exists is found, and the expression of a horizontal line Cb which is approximate to the isoilluminance curve C in a horizontal region a1 in which the horizontal part of the light and shade boundary line exists is found. The inflection point Ca is used as a reference in the horizontal direction when an optical axis is to be adjusted, the horizontal line Cb is used as a reference in the vertical direction when the optical axis is to be adjusted, and the optical axis of the headlight is adjusted.

    • PURPOSE: To provide an adjusting method in which an optical axis can be adjusted automati cally even when the optical axis is coupled to an adjusting screw for the up and down direc tion and an adjusting screw for the right and left direction in any order by a method wherein the relationship between the optical axis adjusting direction and the optical-axis moving direction of the adjusting screws which couple a driver unit is discriminated automatically. CONSTITUTION: A headlight HL for a car A in a definite position is turned on, an irradiation pattern B on a screen 2 is imaged 3, and an image processor 4 measures the optical axis of the headlight HL. It is measured in such a way that the middle point C of virtual light- source images L, R at a time when the headlight HL is situated in a prescribed position is measured in advance so as to be stored 4.and that the deviation of the headlight HL is detected as the deviation of the middle point C. In addition, the center of gravity G of the pattern B is measured and adjusted as a point in which the optical axis agrees, and the optical axis is put into an accepted range WP. Then, a driver unit 9 is coupled, by a manual operation, to one out of the adjusting screw for the up and down direction and the adjusting screw for the right and left direction of the headlight HL, the unit 9 is controlled 4 on the basis of a. measured result, and the direction of the optical axis is adjusted. The other direction is adjusted in the same manner. Consequently, even when the unit 9 is coupled in any order, the optical axis can be adjusted automatically.

    • PURPOSE:To constantly adjust the distance between the head lamp of a motorcycle and a head lamp testing machine in accordance with the model of the motorcycle by mounting the head lamp testing machine on a mobile base which can be brought nearer to and separated from a front wheel supporting base. CONSTITUTION:The attitude of a motorcycle V is stabilized after the front and rear wheels WF and WR of the bicycle V are respectively placed on front wheel placing drums 711 and 712 and rear wheel placing drums 191 and 192. While the motorcycle V is kept in such a state, the mirror of an instrument body 101 is positioned against the front face of a head lamp L by moving a head lamp testing machine 10 mounted on a base body 103 leftward and rightward against the motorcycle V by moving the base body 103 leftward and rightward along rails 99. Then, the distance between the head lamp L and mirror of the testing machine 104 is adjusted by moving a mobile base on rails 94, namely, the testing machine 104 forward and backward against the motorcycle V by means of a moving motor 96. Therefore, the distance between the head lamp L and the mirror of the machine 104 can be accurately fixed (for example, to 3m) even when the distance between the front wheel WF and head lamp L varies depending upon the model of the motorcycle.
