    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a configuration for generating beat notes with a relatively high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).SOLUTION: The present invention for generating beat notes with a relatively high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) utilizes a pulsed laser source coupled into a section of a post-processed highly-nonlinear optical fiber (HNLF) to generate a frequency comb having one or more regions of enhanced spectral power. A second laser signal source is overlapped with the frequency comb to form one or more "beat notes" at different frequencies between the second source and a continuum comb. By virtue of the post-processing, areas of spectral enhancement are formed along the comb, to interact with the second laser signal to generate "high power" optical beat notes. The second laser signal may be formed from an external source (forming beat notes from a signal "outside" of the comb), or may be a frequency-multiplied version of the generated supercontinuum (forming beat notes from a signal "within" the comb).

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical frequency comb generator and an optical pulse generator using it, for precisely controlling the drive conditions of an optical frequency comb without complicating a configuration related to control or increasing costs, and to provide an optical frequency comb generating method and an optical pulse generating method using it.
      SOLUTION: The optical frequency comb generator includes two light modulation parts 41, 42 for independently modulating light waves propagated through two branch waveguides of a Mach-Zehnder optical waveguide, and a phase adjusting part 43 for controlling the phase difference of the propagate light waves. The optical frequency comb generator includes: an amplitude adjustment means 22 for adjusting a voltage amplitude of an RF signal applied to at least one of the light modulation part; a monitoring means 21 for monitoring the intensity of output light; and a bias control circuit 20 for changing the differences in the voltage amplitudes of the RF signal applied to each light modulation part by controlling the amplitude adjustment means, detecting the change of the output light corresponding to the change of a voltage amplitude differences from the output signals of the monitoring means, controlling a phase adjusting part on the basis of a detected result and adjusting the phase difference.
