    • PURPOSE: To perform TIG arc welding in such a way that the depth of penetration in a weld zone is approximately constant even if arc length varies largely by using a specifically composed gaseous mixture of gaseous hydrogen and inert gas as a shielding gas.
      CONSTITUTION: A DC voltage is impressed between an electrode 1 consisting of W or a W base alloy and a material 2 to be welded from a power source 3 to generate and sustain an arc 4 in tungsten inert gas (TIG) arc welding. The electrode 1 is moved in this state along the welding position to form successively a weld zone 5. A gaseous mixture composed of 3W60vol% gaseous hydrogen and the balance inert gas is used as a shielding gas. Then the gaseous hydrogen has a high reducing property and therefore said gas maintains the high temp. part in a reducing atmosphere, by which oxidation of the material 2 is prevented. The bead width and depth (l) of penetration are approximately constant even if arc length (d) varies.

    • PURPOSE:To eliminate the generation of a crack in the outside circumferential edge part of a recessed spherical surface to be subjected to a TIG treatment by blowing side gas to the part near said edge part and an electrode thereby preventing the arc wandering to be caused by the high frequency during arc generation. CONSTITUTION:The electrode 9 of a TIG torch 8 is directed to the recessed spherical surface 5 of an arm 1 and shielding gas 11 is fed thereto from a nozzle 10 to generate an arc. An arm 1 is rotated around the axial center of the surface 5 to form a bead 12. A side nozzle 16 is directed, with the surface 5 backward, to the part near an outside circumferential edge part 13 and the electrode 9, and the same side gas 17 as the gas 11 is ejected in about 2-3sec before the impression of the high frequency during the arc generation. The gas is stopped in about 0.5sec after striking. The impact of the ion generated in the above-mentioned proximity part and the release of thermion are thus obviated and the generation of arc wandering in the part 13 is prevented. The crack likely to be generated in the outside circumferential edge part 13 in the stage of a hot coining treatment is thus eliminated.

    • PURPOSE:To improve easily and inexpensively the fatigue strength in a welded joint part in a short time by heating and remelting the surface layer of a weld bead by a heat source of a non-consumable electrode type and shaping the surface shape thereof then cooling the same. CONSTITUTION:A TIG welding torch 7 connecting to a power source 11 for welding and an inert gas source 12 is prepd. as a heat source in a welded Tee joint formed by joining base metals 1, 1 with a weld bead 2. Inert gas 10 is released from the tip 9 of the torch 7 and an arc is generated between a tungsten electrode 8 and the surface 2a of the weld bead in the atmosphere of said gas. The surface 2a of the weld bead is heated by the heat of said arc by which the surface layer 2b is remelted to flow by itself, and is shaped to a smooth surface condition 2c when cooled and solidified. An undercut 5 and crater (not shown) are buried to improve fatigue strength simultaneously with shaping in this case. It is effective to mix said layer with the surface layer 2b remelted with a suitable filler metal for added improvement of the fatigue strength.

    • PURPOSE:To form a weld zone having high quality in the stage of subjecting a joint to TIG welding in a vertical up attitude by forming a non-consumale electrode and a filler metal so as to face upward and downward respectively at the angles thereof relative with a base material in a specific range and conducting AC or DC current between the filler metal and the base material. CONSTITUTION:A DC voltage is impressed between a base material 8 and a non- consumable electrode formed of tungsten, and while both are shielded by the gas from a gas cup 3, an arc 4 is generated to melt the metal 2, thereby forming a molten pool 7. The base material is thus welded by a bead 14. The angle 12 of the electrode 1 relative with the material 8 is set at =135 deg.. A voltage of AC 15 or DC 6 is impressed according to the residual magnetism of the material 8 between the metal 2 and the material 8. The weld zone which contains less hydrogen in the weld metal hence less blowhole, and has high cracking resistance and high quality is obtd.
