    • PURPOSE:To enable to detect a wall thickness of the round pipe to be measured at all parts by a construction wherein a radiation source both relatively rotatable about the axis of the round pipe to be measured are disposed facing each other on an extension of the segment connecting two arbitrary apexes of an imaginary odd-apexes regular polygon, which apexes locate on the round pipe wall part. CONSTITUTION:An imaginary odd-apexes regular polygon, which has the same center as the axis of a round pipe 101 to be measured and has apexes locating on the wall part thereof, is arbitrarily specified. A position detector 107 detects each particular mark indicating that a straight line extended from the segment connecting two adjacent apexes of the imaginary polygon is made coincident with the path of radiation 105 emitted from a radiation source 103. A radiation detector 106 is disposed on the path of the radiation 105 to face the source 103. An arithmetic unit 112 performs given computation based on attenuated amounts of the radiation which are obtained by causing the radiation 105 to pass the same part of the round pipe 101 two times at different relative angles, thereby determining a wall thickness Xn at that part.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the performance of a continuous casting device by providing a hollow-shaped magnetic shielding can body, also winding a coil to its can body, and also providing a cooling hole communicating with the can body, on an iron core. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnetic stirring device is constituted of an iron core 1, and a coil 3 which has been wound to a magnetic shielding can body 2. Cooling water which has been injected from a cooling water inlet 5 is distributed into a cooling pipe 4, which has been installed to each iron core 1 through a header 6, and from a contact part of the iron core 1 and the cooling pipe 4, heat is removed by a thermal conduction. Also, the cooing pipe 4 is connected to the magnetic shielding can body 2, and led to a cooling water outlet 7 through the can body 2. In the magnetic shielding can body 2 of a water-cooled structure, a heat removal of a thermal conduction is executed in the contact part of the coil 3 and the iron core 2. According to this method, burning of the coil of the electromagnetic stirring device is prevented and the device can be used continuously for many hours. Accordingly, the performance of a continuous casting device is improved.
