    • PURPOSE:To stably hold and rotate a recording disk at a low temp. by magnetically levitating the recording medium, holding it in superfluidity of He and rotating it by changing magnetic fields from the outside. CONSTITUTION:Liquid He can easily be turned into the superfluid state at a temp. lowered below 2.2k by vaporization through decompression with a pump, etc. Since the superfluid He has no viscosity, the rotation of the disk is not obstructed, and it is hard to generate heat. A hole burning recording disk can be accessed at high speed in keeping it stably at a fixed low temp. by holding the recording disk at the levitated state in this superfluid He. An upper part of a disk levitating superfluid He container 1 is transparent to make a data accessing light beam pass through. The disk 3 is levitated in He by such Meissner's effect that magnetic flux due to a magnet 8 is repulsed by a superconducting material 6 attached to the disk, and the disk 3 can be rotated by inducing the magnetic fields of stationary magnet 5 at a disk edge part and an external electromagnet 7 successively.
