摘要： PURPOSE:To keep fine wires such as optical fibers parallel to each other without excess tension for convergence, by specifying the distance between rollers for holding the wires and their twisting angle. CONSTITUTION:Each fine wire 1d is delivered along a delivery line AB on which are arranged a pair of front rollers 2a, 2b, horizontally, intermediate rollers 3a, 3b vertically and another pair of rear rollers 4a, 4b horizontally, the distances 6, 7, 8 between each pair of rollers being larger than the outer diameter of the wire 1 and smaller than twice the diameter. Since each wire 1 undergoes horizontal, vertical and again horizontal forces in this order while passing through the rollers, the wire 1 is twisted by 90 deg.. This twisting angle can be set within 360 deg. in accordance with the distance between rollers. This method can eliminate entanglement of wires 1 and also converge them without excess tension.

摘要： PURPOSE:To enable high-strength junction without damaging the joint at the time of melt junction by immersing the terminal of an optical fiber coated with urethane, epoxy, or silicone resin to swell and soften the resin layer, and removing it. CONSTITUTION:The outer circumference of a naked optical fiber 2, i.e., a clad- coated core, is covered with an outer coat 3 made of at least one of urethane, epoxy, and silicone resins. The terminal of the covered optical fiber is immersed into a solvent 5 of trichloroethylene, dimethylsulfone, dimethylformamide, benzene, chloroform, etc., or a solvent mixture of some of them, to swell and soften it. The softened resin is removed to disclose the fiber 2, and it is further freed from the remaining resin 3 by dipping it into acetone, and dried in a strem of warm air. Each terminal of the obtained fibers 2 is butted and exactly centered, thus permitting melt junction with good transmittance and high junction strength without forming any fine scratch or defect on the surface of the optical fiber 2.

Consequently, a sufficient flexibility is obtained by the semihardened state of the resin 4, and the resin 4 is hardened completely after to improve the thermal resistance, and the contraction of the resin 4 at a low temperature is suppressed by the action of fibers 5 to prevent the degradation of the transmission loss of fiber strands 1.

Even when side pressure is applied during the connection of the conductive beltlike body, the optical fiber is protected by the secondary covering layer made of the fiber reinforced plastics.

CONSTITUTION:Around the external circumference of a tension member 1, for example, a glass-fiber-reinforced and plastic-coated optical fiber core wire 2 and a normal optical fiber core wire 7 are stranded alternately into one layer and around its external circumference, a jerry-permeable retaining winding 8 is provided; and jerry 9 is charged between the layers of the core wires 2 and 7. Then, a jerry-containing buffer layer 10 is provided around the external circumference of the winding 8, a metal-plastic laminate tape is coated longitudinally, and hard thermoplastic plastic sheath 6 is laminated on its external circumference in one body. Consequently, an increase in transmission loss due to high temperature is prevented and even when the jerry 9 flows owing to the application of squeezing force, the core wires are prevented from moving together, thus preventing the transmission loss from increasing.
