CONSTITUTION:When calcium hydrogen carbonate is incorporated into city water, the content is adjusted in accordance with the thickness of the coat consisting essentially of calcium carbonate and formed in the city water pipeline. The thickness of the coat formed in the branch pipe at the terminal of the pipeline is periodically measured, the Langelier index of the city water is kept at -1 to 0.5, and the content of calcium hydrogen carbonate is adjusted to decrease the index when the coat thickness is increased to 400-500mum and adjusted to increase the index when the coat is dissolved and its thickness is decreased to 100-50mum. Consequently, the coat thickness is kept in a specified range, and the corrosion of the pipeline is effectively prevented.
