    • PURPOSE:To improve reliability to mechanical vibration, etc. by etching the end of optical fibers to concave shape by an etching solution and mounting and bonding spherical lenses of a diameter equal to or larger than the diameter of the inside wall cylinder of the concave portions into the concave portions. CONSTITUTION:The end of an optical fiber composed of a core 1, a clad 2 and a starting quartz pipe 3 is etched by a hydrofluoric acid and a spherical lens 5 is mounted in the concave portion thus formed and is bonded and fixed by an adhesive agent 5. The spacing between the spherical lens 4 and core 1 is made specified value through etching operation. These optical fibers 11, 11' are mounted to the connector in such a manner that the spherical lenses 13, 13' are on a straight line and the fibers 11, 11' are fixed to the jacket by means of adhesive agents 17, 17'. The value of x is so determined that the incident light from the optical fibers 11, 11' is emitted as parallel luminous fluxes by the spherical lenses 13, 13'. Since the spherical lenses and fibers are integrated, they do not receive the influence of vibration and the reliability is high.

    • PURPOSE:To increase diffraction efficiency and reduce etching time by using the solution whose rate of etching is anisotropic to crystal planes and the solution whose rate of etching is isotropic thereto in the foregoing order. CONSTITUTION:At the time of producing the plane diffraction grating having the groove threads of an inverted triangle shape in section of a grating pitch P and angle theta where, e.g., blazed wavelength is let lambdaBAngstrom , the main plane 11 of silicon single crystal is made the crystal plane inclined by theta to the (111) plane of the crystal, and the single crystal 13 whose side faces 12 are the (110) plane perpendicular to this is prepared. Thread-form mask layers 14 of the width D sufficiently smaller than the pitch P are parallel-arrayed on the plane 11 at the pitch P and the 1st etching is applied by the solution such as KOH whose rate of etching differs with the crystal and where the inner side face 15L, 15R of the thread grooves 16 are formed of (111) plane, the 1st etching is ended. Next, the etching is done by an isotropic solution such as hydrofluoric-acid-base etching solution until there are no more thread faces 17 of the layers 14, whereby the inner side faces 15L', 15R' of the grooves 16' are formed. The mask layers 14 are removed to complete the diffraction grating. The one free from defect planes is obtained in a time shorter than that for obtaining the thread grooves 16' simply by the 1st etching solution.

    • PURPOSE:To achieve high-precision positioning by utilizing for the positioning of an optical fiber the side-edge groove of a member for arraying the optical fiber which has grooves for arraying an holding optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:This structure is provided with an optical fiber 6, members 7 and 7' for arraying optical fibers, a reference member 8, a guide pin 9 for the opposite connector, and a blocks 10 and 10' for sandwiching the members 7 and 7'. In the members 7 and 7', V-shaped grooves 11 for holding optical fibers 6 and formed precisely at equal intervals and side-end parts 7a and 7'a are cut in the centers of the V-shaped grooves. The members 7 and 7' hold optical fibers 6 in the respective grooves and at the side-end parts and, while pressed against the reference surface 8a of the reference member 8 as shown by an arrow P, are sandwiched between the blocks 10 and 10'.
