摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly and surely execute the hot-repairing of a snorkel for a vacuum degassing apparatus. SOLUTION: The inner peripheral surfaces of a circulating tube 3 and an immersion tube 5 are overhauled with a boring bit 9. Into the overhauled hole, a refractory 6 for repairing integrally arranged with a jointing sealer 8 on the outer periphery is inserted. Pitch or a thermoplastic synthetic resin is used for the jointing sealer 8 as a bond, and when the refractory 6 for repairing is inserted into the hole of the snorkel 1, the jointing sealer 8 is combined with carbon with a remaining heat in the furnace, and the refractory 6 for repairing is fixed to the inner peripheral surface of the snorkel 1. Since the jointing sealer 8 is nonaqueous, its hardening is quickened and the repairing work can quickly be executed, and also, since the intrusion of the air from the position of flanges 4 is shut off with the refractory 6 for repairing, the pick-up phenomenon of nitrogen is prevented and the quality of molten steel is improved.

Thereby, a thickness or an penetrating ground metal in the lined refractory 26 can be detected separately or simultaneously.
