    • PURPOSE:To increase the magnetic field in the horizontal direction on the surface of a material to be inspected and to increase the generating power, that is, generating Lorentz force of a generating coil, by bringing the magnetic body to come near the generating coil to decrease magnetic path resistance. CONSTITUTION:When high frequency pulse current IW1 is supplied to a generating coil 2 from a high frequency pulse power source 4, eddy current JW2 and oscillating magnetic field BW 2 are generated in a material 3 to be inspected. The oscillations of Lorentz force F2 are generated at the two-times frequency tuned to the frequency of the high frequency pulse current in the material 3 by the mutual effects of the eddy current and the magnetic field, and the oscillations propagate as ultrasonic waves in the material to be inspected. Here, laminated silicon steel plates 5 which are magnetic materials are provided to a transmitting transducer 1 to decrease the magnetic path resistance of the magnetic field generated by the current IW2. The generating power is thus made about twice higher and the flaw detection by the electromagnetic ultrasonic waves having high sensitivity is accomplished.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a high voltage from being induced in a detecting coil, by providing a transformer where the primary side is connected in series to an exciting coil and the secondary side is connected in series to the detecting coil. CONSTITUTION:The eddy current due to the action between the magnetic field and the ultrasonic wave arriving at the surface of materials 1 is detected by a detecting coil 6 and is inputted to an amplifier 12 through a secondary winding 16 of a transformer 14. At this time, since the primary side of the transformer 14 is cut off by a discharge tube 11, the circuit of the detecting coil 6, the secondary winding 16, and the amplifier 12 are not affected by the state of the primary side at all. When the voltage between terminals of a capacitor becomes a certain value or more, discharge occurs in the discharge tube 11 to constitute a serial resonance circuit, and a high frequency pulse current is flowed in an exciting coil 5 and the primary winding of the transformer 14. Since the exciting coil 5 is provided near the surface of materials 1, an eddy current is generated in materials 1, and an ultrasonic wave is generated by the interaction between the eddy current and the magnetic field.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce the sensitivity to the external electromagnetic noise, by connecting two sets of magnetic field generating devices and detecting coils so that they are operated cumulatively for ultrasolic signals and are operated differentially for external electromagnetic waves. CONSTITUTION:Since first and second exciting coils 21 and 22 are connected in directions opposite to each other, magnetic field in directions opposite to each other are generated near the surface of conductive materials 6. Therefore, directions of eddy currents C1 and C2 generated by an arrival ultrasonic wave B are opposite near the first detecting coil 41 and the second detecting coil 42. Though output signals of detecting coils 41 and 42 due to these eddy currents have polarities opposite to each other, the signal obtained at a receiving terminal is a signal having the double strength and corresponding to the arrival ultrasonic wave because coils 41 and 42 are connected in directions opposite to each other. Meanwhile, external electromagnetic waves induce voltage is detecting coils independently of magnetic fields near the surface of conductive materials, and voltages are induced in detection coils 41 and 42 similarly, but the signal does not appear at the receiving terminal.

The first flat coil 13 is arranged near the lower end of a groove 10c between the column 10a and the cylinder 10b of the iron core 10, and the second flat coil 14 is arranged in the lower end face of the column 10a. When the coil 11 is selected, the spiral first flat coil 13 is used as a coil for generating and detecting an eddy current to obtain the probe for generating and detecting ultrasonic waves of logitudinal waves. When the coil 12 is selected, the seocnd flat coil 14 is used to obtain the probe for generating and detecting ultrasonic waves of transversal waves.

    • PURPOSE:To surely decide defect shapes with simple constitution by discriminating the shapes of the echo signal peak value-converting element position curves of multiple ultrasonic wave converting elements by a computer. CONSTITUTION:Ultrasonic waves are transmitted simultaneously from a mosaic- shaped ultrasonic wave converting elements 41- forming an ultrasonic probe 4 to a material 1 to be tested, and the echo signals by the elements 41 are stored in the storage part of a microcomputer 11 by way of an analog switch 8, a detecting circuit 9 and an A/D converter 10 of a signal processing circuit 7. In the same manner, the echo signals of the elements 42- are successively stored, whereby echo signal peak value-element position curves are formed. The computer 11 compares the peak valu- element position curves of every defect shape having beforehand been stored with the formed curves, decides defect shapes and displays the same in a display device 12. With this simple constitution, the defect shapes are decided surely and determined.
