    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an Nb alloy heat resistant member showing excellent oxidation resistance in a high temp. region by forming surface coating onto an alloy essentially consisting of Nb into the one in which the surface of a primary layer composed of Ir having a specified value or above of purity is provided with a secondary layer composed of Au. SOLUTION: An alloy essentially consisting of Nb, e.g. a base material 101 (Nb3 Al base intermetallic compd.) is set to a high frequency sputtering coating forming device charged with an Ir target having >=99.9% purity. The inside of a chamber is evacuated, thereafter, gaseous Ar is introduced into the chamber, the pressure therein is regulated to generate plasma, and coating of Ir is executed to form a primary layer 107 composed of Ir having >=95% purity on the base material 101. After that, the base material 101 is moved to a vacuum deposition device, and Au having >=99.9% purity is melted under heating and evaporated to form a secondary layer 105 as Au coating on the primary layer 107. In this way, the Nb heat resistant member showing excellent oxidation resistance even at >=1100 deg.C can be obtd.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk substrate for a hard disk capable of easily attaining a higher speed of rotation and lessened electric power consumption by constituting the magnetic disk substrate of a magnesium based alloy contg. inevitable impurities and magnesium in excess of a specific weight per cent. SOLUTION: The torque and energy necessary for rotating an object are proportional to the moment of inertia of the object and the moment of inertia is proportional to the sp. gr. of the material in the case of a disk shape of the same size. The magnesium based alloy contg. >=50 wt.% magnesium is used for the hard disk. On the other hand, the countermeasure by the strength reinforcing plate in the central part for the damage of the hard disk by a centrifugal stress may be made less than in the case an aluminum based alloy is used. As a result, the driving with a lower-output motor is made possible and the size of the hard disk device may be reduced and the electric power consumption thereof is reduced. Further, the reduction of the centrifugal stresses is possible and, therefore, the higher-speed rotation is made possible.
