    • PURPOSE:To attain high density of a Bloch line memory by modulating the magnetization of a garnet along a magnetic wall periodically. CONSTITUTION:A rare-earth iron garnet film is used for the magnetic film, and an iron substitution element (Si, Ge, Al, Sc, Mn, V or Ga) is coated or ionized and radiated to a part of the garnet film and a part of the film magnetization under the iron substitution element in the film thickness direction is decreased or increased via a process applying heat treatment at a lower temperature than the film forming temperature. Since the magnetization of the minute part is modified locally by having only to enable to apply minute processing at a resist pattern level, the bit and strip fixation at the minute region is attained and the Bloch line memory is formed with high density. As a result, since a drive magnetic field and a magnetic field (for read/write) for operating the function part are applied as specified by a simple pattern, the operating margin is expanded.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce bleeding at the end of at least one recording bit, without adding a large modification to a head making process, by forming two magnetic poles so that their ends of at least one side coincide with each other. SOLUTION: In the magnetic pole structure viewed from the floating face side of a magnetic head, the two magnetic poles are formed so that, among the ends 103-106 of the opposing two magnetic poles 101, 102, a straight line connecting the ends 103, 105 on the same side against the center line 107 of a narrower magnetic pole is parallel to the normal line direction 109 of the opposing face 108 of the pole. In other words, the ends of at least one side of the two magnetic poles coincide with each other. In the distribution of a leakage magnetic field in the magnetic head in which the poles are formed in such a positional relation, the leakage magnetic field at the end with the pole ends in coincidence has less curvature, producing less blotting in recording. Incidentally, the two points coincide in which the ends 103, 105 of the magnetic pole are projected to the opposing face 108 of the pole.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an upper magnetic pole of a thin film magnetic head with good accuracy and good reproducibility by forming a photomask for a magnetic pole in such a manner that the photomask consists of a first frame pattern surrounding a magnetic pole pattern which constitutes a portion of a magnetic circuit, and a second frame pattern present in the outside region of the magnetic pole pattern. SOLUTION: A second frame pattern 11 parallel to the X-axis and Y-axis is formed in the photomask for an upper magnetic pole so that a first frame pattern 7 surrounding the magnetic pole pattern 10 which constitutes a portion of a magnetic circuit is connected to the second frame pattern 11 and that the second frame pattern 11 is present only in the outside region of the magnetic pole pattern 10. The upper magnetic pole 10 of a thin film magnetic head is formed by plating a step consisting of a coil 4 and an insulating layer 5. By using the photomask having the second frame pattern 1 connected to the adjacent first frame patterns 7, an enough function to support the first frame pattern 7 from falling can be obtd.
