    • PURPOSE:To reliably determine the degree of configuration defect, by a method wherein configuration is evaluated by employing a detected stress signal as it is or an absolute stress obtained by correcting the detected stress signal by an overall tension according to whether the variation of a gap signal is below or above a given value. CONSTITUTION:An excitation coil 14 and detection coils 20, 22 are disposed along the moving direction of a belt-shaped magnetic substance 18 moving at high speed in order to measure the stress applied to the belt-shaped magnetic substance 18 by utilizing magnetostriction effect. In addition, the stress distribution in the width direction of the belt-shaped magnetic substance 18 is made known by detecting the gap between the detector and the belt-shaped magnetic substance 18, and the configuration of the belt- shaped magnetic substance 18 is evaluated from the stress distribution. When the variation of the gap signal is below a given value, i.e., in a state where configuration is latent, the configuration is latent, the configuration is evaluated by employing the detected stress signal as it is. On the other hand, when the vairation of the gap signal is above the given value, i.e., in a state where the configuration is actualized, the configuration is evaluated by employing an absolute stress obtained by correcting the detected stress signal by an overall tension.

    • PURPOSE:To greatly improve the received signal level with a larger generated DC magnetic flux density by means of a transmission/reception coil having a magnetic strand as conductor wound. CONSTITUTION:A DC electromagnet composed of a DC excitation coil 2 and an core 3 with an E-shaped section is arranged on a test material 1 and an ultrasonic wave receiving coil 8 having an insulated wire made of a high magnetic permeability material wound in the required number and a non-conductive protective sheet 6 made of acryl or the like and a case 7 to protect the coil 8 are mounted on a central leg of the core 3. The high magnetic permeability material of the transmission/reception coil 8 reduces the magnetic resistance drastically thereby increasing the level of the received signal with a larger generated DC magnetic flux density.

    • PURPOSE:To realize an easy exchange for a transmitting/receiving coil only, if the coil is broken, by making a transmitting/receiving coil that is mechanically weak, to be detachable. CONSTITUTION:A transmitting/receiving coil 5 is formed on a nonconductive protecting member 23 such as the ceramics, polycarbonate, etc., and a contact terminal 22 is attached to the coil 5. These units are covered with a protective member 24 of the same material as the member 23 and unified into one body. Thus a transmitting/ receiving coil assembly 14 is formed. This assembly 14 is fitted to the tip of a center foot iron core 4 so that the terminal 22 touches and engages a socket 17 provided in a socket storing hollow part 16 at the tip of the core 4. Then the assembly 14 is pressed with a ring-shaped coil press plate 15 and fixed with a screw 18.

    • PURPOSE:To increas the crack signal strength by arranging the centers of detecting coils at the inner periphery of an exciting coil, and increasing the magnetic fluxes which are linked with the detecting coils. CONSTITUTION:The centers of the detecting coils 2A1, 2B1,...2A4, and 2B4 are located on the inner periphery of the exciting coil 1. The beginning of the winding of the detecting coil 2A1 is connected to the first signal output terminal, the end of the winding thereof is connected to the end of the winding of the detecting coil 2B1, and the beginning of the winding of the detecting coil 2B1 is grounded. Likewise, the detecting coils 2A2, 2B2,...2A4, and 2B4 are connected, and the second signal output terinal - the fourth signal output terinal are obtained. The exciting coil 1 is excited by a high frequency power source, and each signal output terminal is sequentially detected. Thus, the cracks at the position of the detecting coils 2A1, 2B1,... 2A4, and 2B4 can be detected. In this constitution, the strength of the crack signal from the probing coils are increased, and the complex signal processing is unnecessitated.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce noise produced at a time when steel pipe is conveyed and to prevent exfoliation of the corrosion-proof agent applied on the steel pipe, by a method wherein the steel pipe is conveyed through the contact of the pipe with a convex part formed on a magnetic rail. CONSTITUTION:A steel pipe 10 applied with a corrosion-proof agent is conveyed onto a skid rail. Said conveyance device consists of an inner pole core 3 including the skid rail, an excitation coil 4 rolled around the inner pole core 3, a pair of outer pole cores 6, which include skid rails located in parallel with each other at both sides of an inner pole magnetic rail 5 connected to the inner pole core 3, and a magnetic frame 1 which connects together said inner pole core 3 and the one end each of the outer pole cores 6 positioned facing and opposite to the skid rail. Convex parts 15a, whose widths are narrower than that of a magnetic rail 15, are provided on the magnetic rail 15 serving as the skid rail, and this causes the reduction in a surface area where the magnetic rail makes contact with the steel pipe 10. As a result, a noise generated at a time when the steel pipe 10 is conveyed can be reduced, and exfoliation of the corrosion-proof agent applied on the steel pipe 10 can be prevented.
