      SOLUTION: Modulation in the polarization direction of a beam is performed by using a small-sized liquid crystal element drivable by a low voltage without using a Faraday element. Consequently, the vibration countermeasure, the cooling device for the heat countermeasure or the like is not especially required, and the whole device can be miniaturized, and the structure can be simplified, and also measurement with low power consumption becomes possible. In addition, measurement can be performed easily even in the case of a large angle of rotation, by using optical rotation acquired from the angle of an analyzer when the analyzer is rotated so that a signal of transmitted light in a reference optical system agrees with a signal of transmitted light passing through a sample.

In this case, since a connection space 124 is arranged in zigzag shape on the lateral side of the short side of the liquid crystal driving integrated circuit 120, this space is smaller than a conventional press-fitting space and the frame width is reduced as well.
