    • PURPOSE:To prevent flaws on the surface of glass plate during cutting of plate glass by placing plate glass on a table laid in water, making a cutting line on the plate glass, generating a water flow on the surface of the plate glass and removing produced glass powder. CONSTITUTION:A table 66 of a plate glass cutter is set in a water storage bath 17, the water storage bath 17 is charged with water by driving a pump 36 and plate glass 49 is placed on the table 66. Then a solenoid valve 48 is operated by driving the pump 36, water is sucked from small holes of the table 66 through a water suction pipe 47 and the plate glass 49 is adsorbed on the table 66. Then water is jetted from a nozzle 34A, an X-Y moving device 50 is operated and a cutter 56 is transferred while making water flow in the direction from a side plate 18A in the water bath 18 to a dividing plate 26 to make a cutting line on the glass plate 49. In the operation, showering water is sprayed from a shower inlet 42 upon the surface of the plate glass 49. Consequently, glass powder occurring during making the cutting line is washed away by water and flaws on the surface of the plate glass 49 during cutting are prevented to give high quality plate glass 49.

    • PURPOSE:To effectively prevent the buckling of the riser and downcomer for transferring a high temp. molten material in the reduced-pressure defoaming device for removing bubbles in a high-temp. molten material such as molten glass by providing a flexible seal member at a specified position. CONSTITUTION:The high-temp. molten material G in a melting tank 1 is introduced into a reduced-pressure defoaming tank 12 in a vacuum housing 11 through a riser 13 made of noble metal and defoamed. The defoamed material G is then transferred to a forming furnace 7 in the succeeding stage through a downcomer 14 made of noble metal. In this case, the gaps between the lower parts of the riser 13 and downcomer 14 and the lower ends of the casings 15 and 16 covering the riser 13 and downcomer 14 are closed by a flexible seal member 20 to control the deflection of the member 20 when the riser 13 and downcomer 14 are thermally expanded in the steady state. Consequently, even if the riser 13 and downcomer 14 are thermally expanded, the deformation due to thermal expansion is effectively absorbed by the member 20.

    • PURPOSE: To reduce the generated tensile stress and reinforce the strength of a ceramic pipe by fitting a metal ring on the outer periphery of the trunk body part of the ceramic pipe, through an expansion mat, and applying the compressive stress on the outer peripheral surface of the ceramic pipe by the expansion force of the expansion mat. CONSTITUTION: As for the dust removing operation in which the dust containing gas having a high pressure and a high temperature is dust-removed, a pressure difference is generated between the inside and outside of a ceramic pipe 10. Accordingly, on the ceramic pipe 10, a tensile stress is generated in the circumferential direction of the ceramic pipe 10. Then, as the structure for fitting a metal ring 16 on the outer periphery of the trunk body part of the ceramic pipe 10 through an expansion mat 12, is applied the compressive stress onto the outer peripheral surface of the ceramic pipe 10 by the expansion force of the expansion mat 12. Accordingly, the tensile stress generated by the mechanical reason or thermal reason on the ceramic pipe 10 is reduced, and the strength of the ceramic pipe 10 can be reinforced.

    • PURPOSE:To enable the detection of the breakage of a glass under polishing in a high precision from the variation of force applied to a polishing surface plate by providing a polishing surface plate with a breakage detection means in a polishing apparatus for polishing a working object by pressing the polishing surface plate to the object. CONSTITUTION:A polishing surface plate 10 is fixed via a connection member 12 to a liftable plate 14 liftably supported on the main body of the polishing apparatus. A pressure sensor 22 acting as a breakage detection means 20 is inserted into an opening formed on the polishing surface plate 10. A downward pressing force is applied to the liftable plate 14 with a pressing means, the polishing pad 16 attached to the bottom face of the polishing surface plate 10 is pressed against a glass plate 18 and the polishing surface plate 10 is subjected to polishing movement keeping the above state to polish the glass plate. When the glass plate 18 is broken during the polishing work, the broken glass piece pushes up the polishing pad 16 to increase the pressure applied to the pressure sensor 22 and the pressure signal is transmitted to a controller to stop the polishing work by the command transmitted from the controller.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of bubbles in stirring and homogenize molten glass by placing a U-shaped homogenization apparatus between a melting furnace and a forming machine and providing a stirrer at a specific depth in a descending flow channel. CONSTITUTION:A homogenization apparatus 10 for a molten material is placed between a melting furnace 12 and a forming machine 14 and is provided with a nearly U-shaped channel 16 and a stirrer 18. The upper end of the descending flow channel 16A is connected to a cooling layer 19 to guide the glass G melted in the melting furnace 12 to the homogenization apparatus 10. The right end of a horizontal channel 16B is connected to the lower end of the ascending flow channel 16C and the upper end of the channel 16C is connected to the storage tank 20. The storage tank 20 guides the molten glass G to the forming machine 14. The rotary shaft 18A of the stirrer 18 is coaxially supported in a rotatable state in the descending flow channel 16A and the blade 18B is positioned at a prescribed depth H to enable the sufficient stirring of the glass G without generating bubbles in the glass. The molten glass G can be homogenized by this procedure and introduced into the forming machine 14 through the horizontal channel 16B and the ascending flow channel 16C.
