    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber opening and classifying apparatus capable of improving the classification accuracy of an opened product and an unopened product and improving the recovery rate of the opened product.SOLUTION: A fiber opening and classifying apparatus 1, which uses the difference in flying distance due to the difference in mass between opened fiber bodies B1 and B2 to classify them, comprises: a rotatable opening cylinder 2; and a first recovery section 3 and second recovery section 4 for recovering the fiber bodies caused to fly by the rotation of the opening cylinder. The second recovery section is used to recover the fiber bodies heavier than the fiber bodies sucked and recovered by the first recovery section. Transportation means (conveyer 5) is provided between the first recovery section and second recovery section to transport the fiber bodies caused to fly by the rotation of the opening cylinder toward the second recovery section. An air suction hole 23 is formed through a side wall 21b provided upright on each of the lateral sides of the transportation means.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for producing a staple fiber capable of easily identifying an abnormality in a tow arising in a stretching process at the upstream side of a crimping machine, and of highly certainly and efficiently carrying out automatic separation of a fiber even if the change in the shape of the fiber is difficult to discern due to the lack of a change in the color thereof in a cutting process.
      SOLUTION: The method and apparatus for producing a staple fiber comprises processes of identifying an abnormal tow by virtue of a displacement sensor and an acceleration sensor attached to the upstream side of a crimping machine, spraying ink that dries super quickly onto the surface of the tow, detecting the ink sprayed onto the tow at the upstream side of a cutting process, and downgrading the tow having been cut, by automatically switching a damper.
