    • PURPOSE:To improve electric conductivity and heighten strength, by using Cu alloy and the additional elements Cr, Zr, Mg and the like of a desired quantity for the material of a commutator. CONSTITUTION:So far as the material of a commutator is concerned, 0.001-5wt% additional elements of one kind or more kinds selected from Cr, Zr, Mg, La, Ge, Hf, Y, Ag and Fe are included in Cu. Electrolytic copper is used for Cu metal, but tough pitch copper is specially suitable. The specially suitable combination of the elements is of Cu-Cr-Zr alloy represented by, for example, Cu.0.01-2wt% Cr, Cu.0.01-2.0wt% Zr, or Cu.0.01-2.0wt% Cr.0.01-2.0wt% Zr. Such member for the commutator has sufficient electrical conductivity and strength.
