    • PURPOSE:To obtain a horizontal-type reactor for a polymerizing reaction having the surface renewability by providing two pieces of following horizontal rotating shafts to the inside of a cylindrical vessel which are fitted with both plural sheets of three-sheet vane type stirring blades provided to the specified positioning relation and the scrapers and are rotated in the different directions. CONSTITUTION:The rotating shafts 1a, 1b which are provided with both the three-sheet vane type stirring blades 2 and the scrapers 5 and are rotated in the directions shown in the arrows are provided to the inside of a cylindrical vessel 4 provided horizontally. The stirring blades neighboring in the lengthwise direction of the same rotating shaft are shifted in 60 deg. phase and fitted and the scrapers are fitted so as to overlap mutually in the lengthwise direction and the cleaning effect is increased by scraping completely the inside wall of a base part of the vessel and also making the loci along the inner peripheral line of the stirring blades of the opposite side. A highly viscous liquid is not held between the paddles and the large liquid surface is formed because the three-sheet vane is large in an angle between the paddles such as 120 deg.. By such a way, the highly viscous liquid is allowed to react while being effectively mixed and stirred and the reactor having the surface renewal action is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain good shaft seal regardless of the thermal expansion of a case by providing a cooling means on a stuffing box, providing on the outer periphery of the end section a conical taper sliding face with a top on the shaft center, and providing a conical taper sliding face brought into close contact with it on the case. CONSTITUTION:Even if a cylindrical case 1 is heated and thermally expanded, a stuffing box 3 is cooled by the cooling water flowing through a water jacket 20 and is not thermally expanded. Therefore, no gap is generated between outer peripheries of stirring shafts 6, 7 and gland packings 12, 13, thus a good shaft sealing effect can be maintained. Even if a conical taper sliding face 21 provided at the end of the stuffing box 3 and a conical taper sliding face 23 of a flange 22 at the end section of the cylindrical case 1 are relatively slid, the stuffing box 3 and the case 1 are concentrically kept, thus recesses 10, 11 of the stuffing box 3 and the stirring shafts 6, 7 are kept at the preset relative positions.
