    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a remote control system which can eliminate the need for exclusive hardware for controlling a recording apparatus such as VTR, with a high versatility.
      SOLUTION: A system includes a means for browsing a broadcast program list given in a site on the Internet; a means for selecting a desired program in the program list and generating indicative of at least the broadcast data, broadcast channel, broadcast start time, or broadcast end time (or broadcast time zone); a mans for describing the generated unique code on an electronic mail and transmitting it to an electronic mail address; a means for accessing a predetermined mail server and acquiring the electronic mail having the unique code included therein; and a means for controlling a recording apparatus and recording the selected program on the basis of the unique code on the acquired electronic mail.

    • PURPOSE:To effectively utilize a display screen without damaging display quality at the time of displaying video images whose aspect ratio is smaller than the display screen by changing a vertical width as well when the horizontal width of display video images is changed so as to maintain a roundness ratio. CONSTITUTION:This video display device is constituted of an A/D converter 4, a controller 5, a write system clock generation circuit 6, a first in first out memory (FIFO memory) 7, a read system clock generation circuit 8, a D/A converter 9, a driving circuit 10, a current control circuit 11, a vertical oscillation circuit 12, a vertical output circuit 13, a deflecting yoke 14 and a display tube 15. In this case, the time base of video signals is compressed by a desired compressibility, the width of the display video images in a horizontal direction is formed into a desired width and also the scanning width of a cathode-ray tube in a vertical direction is controlled so as to be a ratio the same as a time base compression ratio. That is, the horizontal width and the vertical width of the display video images can be adjusted while maintaining the roundness ratio.

    • PURPOSE:To improve safety to the discharge of a high voltage part by stopping the operation of a horizontal circuit according to a detection signal when an arc is generated in a high voltage generation circuit, and maintaining the state until a release operation is executed. CONSTITUTION:In the case of a normal operation, the output of a comparator 6 is turned to level since a voltage Va at a point (a) is higher than a reference voltage Vs, a thyrister 7 is in an OFF state, a transistor Q3 is turned to the OFF state and a horizontal pulse signal is impressed to a horizontal drive circuit 2. Next, when an arc is generated in a high voltage generation circuit 4, the output from the comparator 6 is turned to a high level since the voltage Va at the point (a) is lower than the reference voltage Vs, the thyrister 7 is turned to an ON state and the transistor Q3 is turned to the ON state. Since a base point (b) of a transistor Q1 of the horizontal drive circuit 2 is turned to a ground state, the horizontal pulse is not impressed and since the operations of a horizontal output circuit 3 and of the high voltage generation circuit 4 are stopped and a high voltage output is also eliminated, the arc is extinguished. Since the power source of the thyrister 7 is impressed even in the state of turning off a power source at such a time, the high voltage is not repeatedly generated.
