    • PURPOSE:To attain a narrow gap and to obtain high reproducing efficiency by combining the magneto-optical effect and a magnetoresistance sensor and reading the direction of magnetization recorded on a medium by the magneto- optical effect. CONSTITUTION:The subject device is provided with a circuit for detecting the direction of magnetization recorded on the magnetic recording medium by the magneto-optical effect and changing a sign of a voltage change between terminals corresponding to a resistance change of the magnetoresistance sensor by the direction of magnetization of the medium. That is, the magnetic recording device is composed of the recording medium, the magnetoresistance sensor and moreover a reproducing system (Kerr effect) having the application of the magneto-optical effect. In this case, since a Kerr rotary angle is changed by the direction of magnetization of the recording medium, the direction of magnetization can be obtained from the intensity of a Kerr signal. Moreover, the absolute value of the Kerr signal intensity is not important, and it is enough to obtain an S/N (signal output/noise output) required for deciding whether the direction of magnetization from the Kerr signal intensity is 1 or 0. By this method, a narrow gap is formed, and a high reproducing output is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce Barkhausen noise by piling up multiple magneto-resistance effect films with nonmagnetic insulating layers in between and plural blocks of the multiple magneto-resistance effect films with insulating layers in between, with each block being constituted of a pair of magneto-resistance effect films connected in series by making detecting currents to flow in opposite directions. CONSTITUTION:Multiple magneto-resistance effect films 1 of 'Permalloy(R)', etc., are piled up with nonmagnetic insulating layers 11 and 12 of SiO2, etc., in between and each magneto-resistance effect films block A 9 is constituted of a pair of the films 1. Then detecting currents 13 are made to flow to the films of each block in the opposite directions from a constant-current power source. In addition, similar blocks B 10 are constituted and the blocks A and B 9 and 10 are alternately piled up with insulating layers 12 in between and wiring is made between the blocks A and B 9 and 10 so that the detecting currents can flow serially between the blocks A and B 9 and 10. Since bias magnetic fields 14 produced by the detecting currents received from adjacent effective films 1 are applied in the same direction in the same block and in the opposite direction between blocks, signal magnetic fields from a recording medium 5 can be reproduced with high sensitivity when the voltage thus produced is detected with a differential amplifier 6.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head with a superior recording and reproducing characteristic by forming a nonmagnetic metallic layer so as to cover a thin film coil partially via an insulating layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head is constituted of the thin film coil 1, a magnetic pole 4 to be coupled with the coil magnetically, the insulating layer 5' for the insulation of the thin film coil 1, and a lead wire 12. Furthermore, the insulating layer 5 is formed extending over the whole of the magnetic head, and an upper nonmagnetic metallic layer 2' to reduce inductance is formed on the layer 5. Since the whole of the magnetic head is enclosed with the nonmagnetic metallic layer 2' via the insulating layer 5 by employing such structure, surplus leakage magnetic flux can be interrupted from the thin film coil 1, which reduces the inductance. Also, since the magnetic pole 4 is enclosed without inserting the nonmagnetic metallic layer 2' between the coil 1 and the magnetic pole 4 at a part where the coil 1 is enclosed with the magnetic pole 4, magnetic joint between the magnetic pole 4 and the coil 1 is not disturbed.

    • PURPOSE:To guarantee the strength of the whole head by filling a space formed of the magnetic substances of side surfaces to be mutually opposed of the projecting parts of two substrate blocks with a nonmagnetic substance. CONSTITUTION:The track width of a compound type magnetic head is made narrower than a core width, and a kerf for deciding the track width is provided. The kerf is formed from a core front part to a core rear part in both edge parts in leaving a ferrite part with a width narrower than the track width on a surface at the gap formed side of a ferrite block. Metallic substance materials 30 and 30' are made to adhere towards the side part of the left ferrite projecting part by a spattering or a thin film forming technique such as a vacuum evaporation. A groove part is filled with nonmagnetic substances 33 and 33' such as a glass, a ceramic and a resin as reinforcing materials. In such a case, ferrite projecting parts 35 and 35' are made into the core of a metallic magnetic substance film, a wear resistance can be guaranteed, and a mechanical strength can be also increased.
