    • PURPOSE: To lessen the number of unreadable postal matter and sort postal matter correctly even if the order of the zip code of the postal matter is not proper or a number of the zip code is missed by installing a sorting means to introduce postal matter into sorting cases based on sorting information consisting of the zip code data of the postal matter and the data of the sequence number of the postal matter with the same zip code. CONSTITUTION: In the sorting process for postal matter, the address information 9 corresponding to the addresses printed on the postal matter is read in a memory means 7 of a control operation station 1. Then, the data of the sequence number which shown how many postal matter with the same zip code exist successively is extracted out of the address information 9 to obtain the sorting information 10 by a routine process 13 to produce the sorting information. Based on the sorting information 10 and the set data of the number of postal mater, sorting process is carried out by a sorting process routine 15. Next, sorting process to produce a new sorted bundle for postal matter with another zip code to be sorted is carried out and thus the sorting process is carried out for all of the postal matter, which are objects to be processed, and at the same time, sorted bundles obtained by the process are introduced into respectively separated sorting cases.

    • PURPOSE:To provide the character recognizing device which can be observed clearly for an operator and can speedily perform following processing by fully displaying a character not to be recognized on a display part by rotating, enlarging or reducing the character while keeping the source image as it is. CONSTITUTION:A character recognizing device 1 is provided with supply part 3 so as to supply postage P to the inside of the device. In this case, concerning the supplied postage P, the contents of address information are recognized by a reading part 5. When the contents of address information are not recognized in this case, the image of this postage P is indicated on the display of a display part 11. In the case of this indication onto the display, the image to be indicated is displayed clearly for the operator by rotation/enlargement/ reduction part 9 by performing transformation such as rotation, enlargement or reduction to the image so as to fill the screen of the display with the image.

    • PURPOSE:To achieve a good processing efficiency and to improve a read factor by a constitution wherein mails supplied from a preprocessing unit are processed in a mixed reading mode and those from a take-out device are processed in a specified reading mode. CONSTITUTION:Mails accumulated in a supply unit are taken out by a take-out unit 2 one by one and carried along a transportation path. Mails supplied from a send-out unit of a coupling device are also joined and carried along the transportation path. Zip code numbers on the mails are read during this transportation. In this case, a control unit 21 discriminates whether the mails corresponding to a read station 4 are supplied from the supply unit or from the coupling device in accordance with signals from detectors 53 and 54. A read processing in a reading mode specified by an operation panel 7 is carried out for the mails from the supply unit and that in a mixed mode is carried out for the mails from the coupling device. It is possible, as a result, to achieve a good processing efficiency and to improve a read factor.
