      SOLUTION: This control device for the internal combustion engine changes the closing timing of the intake valve when occurrence of knocking must be suppressed, and the closing timing of the intake valve after changing is determined by taking pulsation of cylinder pressure into consideration. The closing timing of the intake valve is determined by taking pulsation of cylinder pressure into consideration as the present invention (step 109), thereby, for example, the closing timing of the intake valve after changing can avoid becoming timing increasing cylinder pressure by the influence of pulsation of cylinder pressure in comparison with the closing timing of the intake valve before changing. Thereby, occurrence of knocking is more effectively suppressed by changing the closing timing of the intake valve.

      SOLUTION: An average value and a standard deviation of a model parameter of Wiebe function model is estimated on the basis of operation conditions (step 110). A model parameter for each of cycles is extracted at random from a normal distribution regulated by the average value and the standard deviation, and thereby, indicated torque ITQ for 100 cycles is estimated based on Wiebe function model (step 120). When a minimum indicated torque ITQmin is smaller than a decision value ITQt, it is determined that there is the possibility of the engine stall (step 128), and the optimum throttle opening THAm whereby the engine stall is prevented, is retrieved.
