    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for estimating traveling direction of a movable body which can overcome demerits of a compass and an odometer sensor, handle any accidental situation likely to be occurred in traveling of the movable body, and estimate a wide variety of error sources, while sensing any system fault.
      SOLUTION: This method for estimating traveling direction of a movable body and the system for performing the method comprise a step to obtain magnetic field information from the movable body-worn magnetic compass; a step to compare the magnetic field of the movable body with the given value, and then determine whether the point where the movable body is located belongs to specific area or not from the above comparison result; and a step to decide whether the azimuth of the magnetic compass should be utilized or not for directional estimation of the movable body through the above determination result to estimate the direction of the movable body.
