The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II [R is a (F-substituted) lower alkyl or (substituted) phenyl] with a compound of the formula, (R )2 B-CH=CH-R [R is OH, a straight-chain, branched chain or cyclic alkyl (oxy) and (R )2 may mutually form a ring and be a (substituted) benzodioxy] or a compound of the formula, H-C≡R-R in the presence of a metal catalyst and a basic substance.

CONSTITUTION: This method for producing a tolan compound of formula III [X to X are each CH, CF, etc.; A is H, F, etc.; Y to Y are each X ; R is a 1-12C alkyl, a 2-12C alkenyl, etc.] is to react an ethynylbenzene derivative of formula I with an aromatic halogen compound of formula II [D is a halogen or SOR' (R' is a lower alkyl or phenyl)] in the presence of a metallic catalyst (e.g. palladium acetate) and a basic substance (preferably a secondary or a tertiary amine such as diethylamine). 摘要： PURPOSE:To enable industrially advantageous production of a highpurity carboxylic acid derivative in high yield by alkylating a phenol derivative and hydrolyzing the resultant intermediate directly without its isolation using aqueous alkali. CONSTITUTION:A phenol derivative of formula I (R1 is lower alkyl) is alkylated with a compound of the formula: R2-X (X is halogen; R2 is alkyl, aralkyl) in the presence of a basic substance such as potassium carbonate to give a reaction mixture containing an ester derivative of formula II. Without isolation of the intermediate of the formula II, the reaction mixture is combined with an aqueous alkali to effect hydrolysis into a carboxylic acid derivative of formula III. Particularly, it is recommended that the reaction mixture is washed with a perfectly immiscible solvent after the hydrolysis. The derivative of the formula III is useful as an intermediate for agrochemicals and medicines. The process according to the present invention can give 4-(4-phenylbutyloxy)benzoic acid by alkylation of methyl p-hydroxybenzoate with 4-phenyl-1-bromobutane.

When the crystal of the compound does not precipitate in step (a), in step (d), a seed crystal is added to the compound solution, to confirm the precipitation of the crystal and thereafter, the compound solution is heated under stirring, to measure the perfectly dissolving temperature of the precipitated crystal.
