    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stave cooler for cooling a furnace wall having homogeneous heat insulating characteristic by inserting a cooling pipe at the rear surface side and the preformed porous ceramics at the working surface side as cast-in. SOLUTION: A cooling pipe 2 is disposed at the rear surface side of the stave cooler 1 and the preformed porous ceramic 3 is disposed at the working surface side and these are inserted as cast-in. It is desirable that the diameter of pores 4 in the porous ceramic 3 is >= average 2 mm and the percentage of void is >=50%. The porous ceramic 3 is separately used to either one of alumina base and SiC base according to thermal loading state in a blast furnace. Since the preformed ceramic having the homogeneous percentage of void is used, a complex body of the homogeneous casting and the porous ceramic is obtd. after casting. Since cast iron flows into the voids in the porous ceramic 3 at the casting time, the cast iron holds the porous ceramic 3 with the wide holding surface and prevents the fall-down. The porous ceramic 3 is formed as a panel-state and has good workability when the stave is manufactured.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copper- or a copper alloy-made stave cooler used for cooling the wall of a blast furnace, etc., which has no welded portion on the cooling water passage and in which pressure loss of the cooling water is low, no stagnation of the cooling water exists, an expansion pipe can be omitted and the length of cooling water piping can be shortened. SOLUTION: The stave body 1 in the stave cooler used for blast furnaces is made of the copper or the copper alloy casting, steel pipes as the cooling water piping 2 are cast into this copper or the copper alloy casting, and the cooling water is made to flow in the steel pipes. The steel pipe has chromium- plating or nickel-plating applied on the outer surface or is made of austenitic stainless steel. The copper purity in the stave cooler is adjusted to >=99.9%. Further, the steel pipe is cast into the copper or the copper alloy casting with both ends projected and these projecting parts are made to double pipes. The projecting parts are projected to the outer part of a seal member 6 at the outside of an iron shell 4.
