    • PURPOSE:To facilitate the working of a seat face of a mounting flange by inserting a rotary shaft of a seat face working tool through a slit to work the seat face on which a fastening member is seated in the inside port edge of a through hole. CONSTITUTION:A slit 5 opening to an end of a mounting flange 2 is formed by casting to be provided with a through hole 4 for inserting a bolt by a boring tool from the outside of mounting flange 2. Then, a rotary shaft of a seat face working tool is inserted into the through hole 4 through the shit 5 to work the seat face 6 on which the head 3a of a bolt 3 is seated in the inside port edge of through hole 4. Thus, even if the depth dimension L of raised bottom 1a of an oil pan body 1 is limited to small one for ensuring oil amount so that the seat face working tool is difficult to insert, the rotary shaft of seat face working tool can be inserted through the slit 5 and thus the seat face 6 can be easily worked.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently carry out exhaust emission control at cold engine by providing a gas supply means for supplying a part at the upstream side of a controlling means of an exhaust passage with heater exhaust gas exhausted from a combustion type heater heating air supplied to a vehicle compartment, to an exhaust emission control device of an engine. SOLUTION: A combustion type heater 6 provided for heating the compartment of a car comprises a combustor 9 provided with a mixing chamber 12 for mixing fuel such as light oil fed from a fuel tank 10 by a fuel pump 11 with air, and a combustion chamber 13 for burning air-fuel mixture. Heating medium (water, for example) is heated by combustion of the air-fuel mixture, and the heated heating medium is supplied to a heater core 19 disposed to an air duct 17 for air conditioning of the compartment via a circulation passage 16 thereby obtaining hot air. The exhaust gas of the combustion-type heater 6 is supplied to a part at the upstream of the controlling means (three-way catalyst) disposed in an exhaust passage of engine via a gas supply pipe 27 of gas supply means, whereby exhaust emission control is early carried out at a cold engine state.

    • PURPOSE:To improve ignitability, start-ability, and warm up enhance property and exhaust performance by reducing the heating capacity of a heater at a start time and increasing the heating capacity of the heater in a warming up time. CONSTITUTION:A heater 13 is installed to be sandwiched between a first intake air passage 9 and a second intake air passage 10 and composed of an upstream side heater 14 installed in a straight pipe part 9a in the upstream side and a downstream side heater 15 installed in the straight pipe part 9c in the downstream side. The upstream side heater 14 and the downstream side heater 15 are connected to a controller 22 through relays 20, 21 respectively and electrified and heated when the relay 21 is magnetized and placed in its connected state by the signal from the controller. In its starting time, only the downstream side heater 15 is electrified and heated. After perfect explosion, as an engine comes in its warming up state, the upperstream side heater 14 is also and heated electrified. An intake air temperature becomes highest just before starting action and thereafter, the intake air introduction is started and then, the intake air temperature is reduced following to the increase of a flow amount.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent breakage of a ceramic member due to a rapid temperature gradient and a difference in wall thickness, by a method wherein a space part is formed in a ceramic member forming an auxiliary chamber, and the wall thicknesses of the inner and the outer wall part of the ceramic member forming the space pat are uniformized. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary chamber 2 positioned in a cylinder head 1 of a diesel engine is formed in a ceramic member 3, and an injection nozzle 6 is obliquely formed in a direction extending from the central part of the bottom of the auxiliary chamber 2 toward a main combustion chamber 5 in a cylinder 4. In this structure, a space part 13 is formed in the ceramic member 3 so as to surround the whole periphery of the auxiliary chamber 2. The wall thicknesses of inner and outer wall parts 14 and 15 of the ceramic member 3 forming the space part 13 are set to an approximately uniform value through out the whole periphery surrounding the auxiliary chamber 2. This enables improvement of a heat insulating effect and reduction of a rapid temperature gradient between the inner and outer surfaces of the auxiliary chamber 2 by means of the space part 13. Further, the wall thickness set to an uniform value enables provision of a uniform thermal expansion amount.

An auxiliary combustion chamber block 9 formed of these pieces 7, 8 which are temporarily secured together after the positioning thereof is shrinkage-fitted in an insert ring 11 made of metals such as, for example, statinless steel, to form an insert block 21 provided therein with a substantially semicircular auxiliary combustion chamber 6. Further, the block 21 is fitted in a receiving hole 17 in a cylinder head 1 with a gap 23 being formed therebetween.

    • PURPOSE: To provide a means for proper intake heating in an intake system of an engine having a mixed fuel supply system and an intake heating system by increasing the amount of heat generated by said heating system when the alcohol concentration is above the predetermined level.
      CONSTITUTION: An alcohol concentration sensor 11 which detects the alcohol concentration and a control 10 which controls the amount of heat generated by an intake heating system (not illustrated) are provided. The control 10 receives the output of the sensor 11 via an alcohol concentration detecting circuit 12 and turns off a relay switch 13 when the alcohol concentration of the mixed fuel 5 is below the predetermined level and connects an electric heater 7 to a power source 14 via a resistor R. When the alcohol concentration of above the predetermined level the control turns on the switch 13 to connect the electric heater 7 directly to the power source 14 to increase the amount of heat generated by the electric heater 7 as compared with the time when the concentration is below the predetermined level.
