On the other hand, the atmospheric gas in the furnace cooling the refractory wall 3 is forcedly discharged to out of the furnace by suction force of a fan 12 for gas exhaust arranged to the outlet of the gas exhaust duct 9 through the gas exhaust duct 9.

The space between the nozzle 7 and the refractory frame 8 is packed with small pieces 10 of the refractory filter material. The molten steel 2 flow out from the long nozzle 7, and collides with the filtering material 10 at high speed. The probability for the non-metallic inclusions to be brought into contact with the filtering material and captured is increased. The molten steel 2 from which the non-metallic inclusions are removed passes through a small hole 11 and enters a tundish 3. Steel with excellent cleanliness is obtained at a low cost. The work to fit the filter to the tundish 3 is facilitated.

Therefore, the thermal load of the metal electrodes can be reduced, a melting loss can be reduced and life can be extended.
