摘要： PURPOSE:To enable alternative processing concerning new recording data by newly providing a data recording area and an alternative data recording area in the unrecorded area of a band on a stage that all the alternative data recording areas in this band is completely recorded. CONSTITUTION:On a stage that the unrecorded area is remained in the data recording area, all the alternative data recording areas are completely recorded [shown in a figure (a)] and the normal alternative processing can not be executed to the record of the unrecorded area in the following data recording areas. In order to realize the normal alternative processing, the new band is constructed in the unrecorded area of the data recording area and the data recording area of the new band, alternative data recording area and Map data recording area are generated [shown in a figure (b)]. Thus, the alternative data recording area is secured to the unrecorded area of the data recording area and the normal alternative processing can be executed. The arrangement of the new band is recorded as new system control track (SCT) data to the unrecorded area of a SCT data recording area.

摘要： PURPOSE:To decrease the number of blocks and characters which undergo comparison at retrieval and to shorten the data retrieving time, by collecting many headwords to divide them into blocks and gathering the head headwords of each block to form a higher level subindex file. CONSTITUTION:The head headwords of each block of a data file are collected for production of a subindex file 200 of a 1st hierarchy. In this case, each block of the data file is decided based on the minimum data handling unit of an external memory 1 storing a large capacity data file. In case the file 200 covers plural blocks, the head headwords of each block of an index file of the 1st hierarchy are collected for production of a master index file 300 of a 2nd hierarchy. The same operation is repeated until the size of the index file is equal to the value less than a single block, i.e., an n-th hierarchy. Then these index files are read out successively in the order of lower hierarchies.
