    • PURPOSE:To reduce the loss of an interval and to improve the efficiency of recording and reproduction by respectively setting the size of a non-magnetic substrate and a protective layer in a contacting area with a recording medium according to their abrasion characteristic. CONSTITUTION:The contacting area of the non-magnetic substrate 1 and the protective layer 5 are made to be different according to the abrasion resistance of material forming the respective things. That means, when the abrasion characteristic of the substrate 1 and the layer 5 are different, phenomenon which the softer one is optionally scraped, for example, does not occur when the recording medium and a magnetic head are slided by making the contacting area of the substrate 1 (the thickness d1 or the area) and the contacting area of the layer 5 (the thickness d2 or the area) to be different. Therefore, the contact of a magnetic gap 3 and the recording medium is always good. Thus, the abrasion resistance of the thin filmed magnetic head is improved and the efficiency of recording and reproduction is improved.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a head excellent in a reproducing efficiency and suitable to a high density magnetic recording by having a magnetic gap formed by the laminated layer of a magnetic thin film and a non-magnetic thin film at one side core half body. CONSTITUTION:The head is formed by non-magnetic substrates 1 and 6, a front magnetic core 2, a magnetic gap 3, a coil 4, terminals 4a and 4b and a rear magnetic core 5. By sticking together with a glass or a resin so that joining parts 5a and 5b of the rear magnetic core 5 can be coincident to joining parts 2a and 2b of the front magnetic core 2 respectively, a thin film magnetic head is manufactured. In short, to a first substrate 6, the rear magnetic core 5 is formed, the front magnetic core 2 and the coil 4 including the magnetic gap 3 laminated and formed at a second substrate 1 are formed, both substrates are stuck together so as to coincide magnetic core joining parts 5a and 5b and 2a and 2b, thus, a thin film magnetic head considering the shortening of the magnetic path length is obtained, further, a manufacturing process per substrate can be decreased, and therefore, the number of the days of the manufacturing of the thin film magnetic head can be made into about 10 days.

    • PURPOSE:To improve efficiency of reproduction by installing a metallic thin filmy magnetic substance having magneto-resistance effect in a part of a magnetic core having a magnetic gap and forming a closed magnetic circuit and making magnetic flux of reproduced signals flow in and flow out nearly parallel to the direction of film thickness of the metallic thin filmy magnetic substance. CONSTITUTION:Uniaxial anisotropy that makes the direction of track width (perpendicular to the face of paper) an axis of easy magnetization is applied to upper cores 21, 21' and a magneto-resistance effect element 22. By supplying current (DC) to a bias coil 27, flow of magnetic flux is generated in the upper core and lower core. In the magneto-resistance effect element 22, the magnetic flux flows in the direction of film thickness. Consequently, magnetization of the magneto-resistance effect element inclines in the direction of film thickness and biased to an optimum operation point. Thus, a yoke type magneto-resistance effect head of high reproduction efficiency is realized.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain the structure of a thin film magnetic head which obviates the decrease of a track width during reproduction by forming the surface of the head to slidingly contact with a medium in such a manner that the length of the upper and lower magnetic layers thereof in the track width direction is larger than a desired track width, that the magnetic gap length in the part corresponding to the length of the desired track width is uniform and that the magnetic gap length in the part except said parts gently increases.     • PURPOSE:To attain accurate head polishment and to make the circuit integration easy at the manufacture of a head element, by forming each polishment electrode just above an insulating substrate and connecting a part of one end of each electrode on a conductive lower magnetic substance layer formed on the insulating substrate. CONSTITUTION:Polishing electrodes 5, 6 are formed just above the insulating substrate 1 and only the parts 5c, 6c are formed on a conductive lower magnetic substance layer 2. A magnetic head current flows between bonding pads 3a, 9a, and an electric signals of the electrodes 5, 6 is detected between bonding pads 5a, 9a and between 6a, 9a. Since the electrodes 5, 6 and the bonding pads 5a, 6a are provided just above the substrate 1, even if polishment is performed to B-B' plane with a conventional polishment and droops 11a, 11b due to the electrode polishment are caused, the bonding pads and the electrodes are not electrically short-circuited, allowing to attain highly accurate polishment. The number of the bonding pads is halved than those of conventional systems, giving convenience for the circuit integration at the manufacture of the head element.
