    • PURPOSE: To attain accurately and easily pad position adjustment to narrow as less as possible the contact range between a head and a medium by adjusting the position of the pad made of a magnetic material so that the inductance viewed from the coil end of a magnetic head is maximized.
      CONSTITUTION: In flowing a current to a coil 3 of the magnetic head 4, a closed magnetic path 7 including the pad 5 made of the magnetic material is formed. Thus, the inductance viewed between both ends 3a, 3b of the coil 3 depends on the position of the pad 5 and when the pad is at an optimum position, the inductance is maximized. In adjusting the pad position so as to maximize the inductance, the relative position between the magnetic head 4 and the pad 5 is in optimum state. In setting a magnetic recording medium 1 between the head 4 and the pad 5, the clearance between the gap 2a of the head 4 and the recording medium 1 is narrowest. Thus, the optimum position of the pad 5 is set accurately and easily via an L-meter 8.

Then, the movable body 10 is swiveled counterclockwise by a rotary actuator 9 until it abuts on a stopper 12b and a buffer 13b and the movable body 10 is raised vertically, thereby measuring and inspecting the elastic holding of the respective magnetic heads of the FDD I in the vertical operation state by the device 19.

    • PURPOSE: To prevent effectively the abrasion of pads which faces in interposing a magnetic head across a magnetic recording medium between them for a long period by forming the pad of a porous material and impregnating the pad with a lubricant.
      CONSTITUTION: The pad 3 is formed of the porous material with relatively high hardness, e.g. sintered metal or "Graphoil" and oilless ceramics, porous alumina, etc., and its contact surface for the magnetic recording medium 1 is polished. Then, the pad 3 is impregnated with the lubricant in a pressure reduced atmosphere. The pad which is formed of the porous material and impregnated with the lubricant is put opposite the magnetic head 2 across the magnetic recording medium 1 and brought into contact with the magnetic recording medium 1, and the lubricant oozes from the surface of the pad 3 and is supplied to the contact surface for the magnetic recording medium 1. Consequently, the frictional resistance between the surface of the magnetic recording medium 1 and the surface of the pad 3 is decreased and the life of the pad 3 is prolonged.
