    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a problem of the occurrence of tempering by heating an outer peripheral face of a cam lobe to a quenching temperature and fitting a shaft into a shaft fitting hole of the cam lobe after heating an inner peripheral face of the shaft fitting hole of the cam lobe up to a shrink fit temperature when the shaft is shrink fitted into the shaft fitting hole of the cam lobe. SOLUTION: When a shaft is shrink fitted into a cam lobe 11, the cam lobe 11 is first placed on a reference plate 20a provided on a jig foundation 20, and a center pin 22 is fitted in a shaft fitting hole 12. Moreover, a phase determining pin 24 is fitted into an insertion hole 13 to position and fix it. Two clampers 25 are operated in this state to press the cam lobe 11 from above, and then an outer peripheral face of the cam lobe 11 is heated up to a quenching temperature through a high frequency coil 26 and an inner peripheral face of a shaft fitting hole 12 is heated up to a shrink fitting temperature. Then, a shaft 16 held by a chuck 19 is lowered and is fitted into the shaft fitting hole 12 of the cam lobe 11 to integrate the cam lobe 11 with the shaft 16 by shrink fitting.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the improper operation due to foreign matter in fluid and improve the maintenance property of a valve timing variable device which is operated by pressure of fluid in the valve timing variable device. SOLUTION: A phase change mechanism 12 provided on a cam shaft 11 has a housing 23 fixed on a driven gear 17, a vane 18 fixed on the cam shaft 12, and a cover 19. A first recessed section 32 and a second recessed section 33 are formed at a tip of the cam shaft 12, and a hydraulic passage P is opened in a bottom section 33a of the second recessed section 33. An insertion hole 34 which is communicated with an opening of the first recessed section 32 is formed in the vane 18, and a mounting hole 35 is formed in the cover 19. A filter 50 is arranged in the second recessed section 33. An OCV 36 is inserted into the insertion hole 34 and the first recessed section 32 through the mounting hole 35 and is fixed by a nut 39. The filter 50 is fixed in a condition in which it is pressed by a spring 53 provided between the OCV 36 and it.
