    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small lighting device which is capable of making starting voltage of a discharge lamp a low level and surely and stably lighting a lamp with low voltage by properly and selectively controlling sticking of an enclosed object of the discharge lamp to an electrode. SOLUTION: Based on knowledge that higher at a starting time is required and emission of secondary electron becomes more difficult when depositions exist in the electrode of a discharge lamp as compared with when depositions do not exist, a heat insulating film 103 is provided on one electrode 101 of the lamp. When the lamp is turned off, cooling for the electrode 101 is delayed by the other electrode 102 and almost all evaporated enclosed objects are one-sidedly sticked to the electrode 102. By generating electric field by impressing starting pulse toward the electrode 101 where depositions do not exist from the electrode 102 in this state that a deposition D biasedly exists, a γ action is generated in the electrode 101 where depositions do not exist, emission efficiency of secondary electron is improved, a starting voltage level is suppressed to the low level and a starting pulse generation circuit can be miniaturized according to this suppression.

    • PURPOSE:To start and light a discharge lamp stably by enabling enough reignition voltage to reignite a discharge lamp to be applied without lowering the smoothing function of a lamp current. CONSTITUTION:A discharge lamp is reignited surely with the voltage generated in a capacitor 14 by regenerating the energy accumulated in the secondary winding 19a of a pulse transformer 18 into a small capacity of capacitor 14 at the time of inversion of polarity after lighting of a discharge lamp 20. At this time, a diode 31 gets in on condition when the voltage generated in the capacitor 14 becomes the same as the output voltage of a first DC power source 1, so the voltage generated in the capacitor 14 never gets over the voltage generated in a first DC power source 1. Moreover, capacitors 11 and 14 smooth lamp currents enough excluding the time of reignition of the discharge lamp. By the above constitution, the capacitors 11 and 14 smooth lamp currents sufficiently, and sufficient reignition voltage can be generated in the capacitor 14 only at the time of reignition of the discharge lamp 20.

    • PURPOSE:To surely perform starting, lighting and dimming as well as a stop of oscillation in an emergency by providing a circuit for dimming and an emergency detection circuit. CONSTITUTION:At the time of starting a dimming mode of a fluorescent lamp 7, a reset circuit (a) 33 is in operation by a timer circuit (a) 32 so that an emergency detection circuit 34 is made null and the fluorescent lamp 7 gets a state of all output lighting. After the lapse of a fixed time, the circuit (a) 32 stops the operation of the circuit (a) 33, the dimming circuit 31 operates and the lamp 7 is dimmed. At the time of emergency of the lamp 7, when the circuit (a) 33 is stopped after a fixed time by the circuit (a) 32, a signal of the emergency detection circuit 34 is outputted to a stop circuit 35. Then, the oscillation operation of a switching circuit 11 is stopped from a circuit 35 through a driving circuit 30. Further, since the circuit 34 consists of an electron circuit, whose detection level gets variable by changing resistance value of the resistors 53 and 53, repeated ON-OFF and a sure stop of oscillation can be performed regardless of lamp voltage and a surrounding temperature. Furthermore, in a normal lamp a reset circuit makes it possible to surely light while being translated to dimming.
