    • PURPOSE:To perform a peening process while holding a distance between a processing objective connection part and a liquid injection nozzle to a fixed value. CONSTITUTION:In a connection part 3 formed by connecting a curved surface- shaped metal member 1 to a cylindrical metal member 14 at a fixed angle, high pressure liquid 13 is jetted from a nozzle 12 into liquid, to apply peening to a surface of the connection part 3 by generated cavitation bubbles. Here is adjusted the nozzle 12 for its position and attitude by a control unit 8 through nozzle driving gears 15, 16, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30. In the control unit 8, based on a distance from the nozzle 12 to a surface of the metal member 1 measured by an axial directional distance sensor 20 and based on a distance from the nozzle 12 to a surface of the metal member 14 measured by an axial diametric directional distance sensor 19, a distance L reaching a surface of the connection part 3 from the nozzle 12 is obtained by calculation. The distance L is controlled so as to hold a fixed value, and an effective peening process is applied by holding a position of generating vortex filament cavitation of the highest water hammering pressure in the objective processing connection part 3.

    • PURPOSE:To quantitatively evaluate an industrial plant in corresponding to the content and degree of damage and material deterioration of equipment and materials by automatically selecting an item to be inspected from a preset group of inspection processes based on a specific damaged point and primary evaluation on the degree of damage. CONSTITUTION:A largely damaged point is specified by means of a nondestructive inspecting device 1 selected in accordance with equipment to be inspected and the content of a damage to be inspected and primary evaluation 2 is performed on material deterioration so as to select the succeeding inspecting process by ranking the degree of damage. A small samples is collected 3 from the deteriorated point by a technigue which also tests various kinds of mechanical strengths and processed 5 to a test piece for observing metallic texture and a micro-test piece. An analyzing instrument 6 observes the texture of the test piece and analyzes the test piece for chemical composition and, at the same time, a micro-testing device 7 tests the mechanical characteristics, such as the impact strength, etc., of the micro-test piece. Then a secondary evaluating device 8 quantitatively discriminates the degree of material damage of the equipment and, at the same time, estimates the remaining life of the equipment. The device 8 also descriminates the need of repairing the equipment and modifying or exchanging the material.

    • PURPOSE:To easily and accurately diagnose the extent of the deterioration of a metallic material by etching the surface of the metallic material chemically or electrochemically and estimating the strength characteristics of the metallic material from a surface state obtained by the etching. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the metallic material is etched chemically or electrochemically and a replica sampling means 7 suspended by a crane 8 is moved to a position to be inspected to sample a replica of the etched surface. Therefore, an actual machine member is not taken out and a surface state wherein corrosion characteristics by the chemical or electrochemical etching is reflected can be taken out without destruction. The chemical or electrochemical etching is not affected by an external field magnetic field, residual stress, etc., in the environment wherein the member to be etched is placed, so variation in surface mode at the time of the replica sampling is small and the accuracy of deterioration detection is improved. Further, the metallic material can be evaluated by the easy electrochemical etching, so a large-scale device is not necessary.

    • PURPOSE:To easily detect thinning of a pipe without omission by providing plural conductive columns on the outside of the pipe on a circle and using them as terminals to flow a current in the peripheral direction and measuring the magnetic flux distribution. CONSTITUTION:A metallic pipe 1 covered with a heat insulator 2 is provided with two or more conductive columns, through which the current flows to the pipe, on the same circle. When the current flow to conductive columns 3 from a constant current device 5, the current is divided into two and flows from conductive columns 3 in pipe peripheral directions; and the current flows equally right and left when the thickness of the pipe is uniform, but the quantity of the current flowing to a thinner side is smaller and that to the other part is larger when the pipe has a thinner part. The magnetic flux distribution in the peripheral direction which is formed by the current is measured from the outside of the heat insulator 2 by a magnetic sensor 4 to detect thinning of the pipe 1. A superconductive quantum interference element of extra-high sensitivity is used as the magnetic sensor to obtain the magnetic flux density with a high precision, and slight thinning is detected.

    • PURPOSE:To enable the specifying of a position and a range of generated reduction in thickness, by measuring intensity of radiation along the outer surface of a piping or the like with a radiation sensor. CONSTITUTION:In a piping or the like made of a material which is liable to form a radioactive clad having a radioactive substance contained in a fluid adhering to the inner wall of a member, the radioactive clad is peeled off at a position where reduction in thickness occurs in the inner wall so that intensity of radiation as measured from the outer surface of the piping becomes less than that of the position where no such a reduction occurs. On the other hand, in a piping made of a material that could make a radioactive substance contained in the fluid hard to adhere to the inner wall of the member and prevent the formation of a radioactive clad, a piping through which the fluid containing radioactive substance passes or the like temporarily, intensity of radiation enhanced at the position with a reduced thickness as compared to the position without such a reduced thickness. Thus, a sensor for detecting radiation is used to measure a distribution of intensity of radiation along the outer surface of the piping or the like, thereby simplifying detection on where a reduction in thickness occurs.
