    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass welding method for producing a welded glass article having high reliability. SOLUTION: A part of a glass layer 3 is melted by irradiating the part of the glass layer 3 with a laser beam, and laser beam absorbing parts 8a-8d having a laser beam absorbency higher than the other part of the glass layer 3 are formed at four corners of the glass layer 3. The laser beam is irradiated along a planned welding area R by using the laser beam absorbing part 8a as a irradiation starting position to melt the glass layer 3 and weld a glass member 4 and a glass member 5. A stable area having stabilized melting of the glass layer 3 can be formed from immediate proximity to a starting point to start irradiation with the laser beam for welding. Consequently, excessive heating of the glass layer 3 for decreasing the unstable area becomes unnecessary to prevent cracking of the glass members 4, 5 and uniformize welded state.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass welding method for producing a welded glass article requiring airtight welding and a glass layer fixing method for the welding method. SOLUTION: A glass layer 3 is irradiated with a laser beam L2 for calcination to fix the glass layer 3 to a glass member 4 by gasifying a binder and melting the glass layer 3. The irradiation area of the laser beam L2 has an area A1 and an area A2 arranged along an extending direction of a planned welding area R and is moved along the planned welding area R in a manner to move the area A1 ahead of the area A2. The area A2 of the laser beam is irradiated to the glass layer 3 before solidifying the glass layer 3 melted by irradiation of the area A1. Accordingly, the time necessary for solidifying the glass layer 3 is prolonged to make easy the escape of the binder gasified by the irradiation of the area A1 of the laser beam L2 from the glass layer 3.
