    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of the conventional fuel cell systems in which a cathode catalyst deteriorates during suspension of a power-generating operation if it is not properly determined whether or not to suspend a power-generating operation of a fuel cell.SOLUTION: In a fuel cell system, a control valve is periodically opened and closed so as to periodically increase and decrease pressure of anode gas downstream of the control valve. A power-generating operation of a fuel cell is suspended in response to a power-generation suspension command given to the fuel cell. When a predetermined condition for the resumption of operation is satisfied, the power-generating operation of the fuel cell, along with supply of anode gas to the fuel cell, is resumed. Anode gas concentration in a position in a power-generating region of the fuel cell where the anode gas concentration becomes locally low is determined. According to the anode gas concentration as determined, it is determined whether or not to shift to a process of suspending a power-generating operation of the fuel cell.
