    • An organic salt compound consisting of a monomethine cyanine cation of formula (I) and an azomethine complex cation of formula (IV). The compound is excellent in sensitivity and light resistance and especially suitable as an optical element to be used in an optical recording material for writing and reading information using laser light. In formula (I), X is oxygen, sulfur, selenium, etc; R 1 and R 2 are each C1-C20 alkyl, C7-C30 arylalkyl, etc.; R 3 to R 6 are each hydrogen, C1-C20 alkyl, etc.; R 4 and R 5 may be taken together to form a 6-membered ring; Y 1 and Y 2 are each C1-C20 alkyl, etc.; R 7 to R 10 are each hydrogen, C1-C20 alkyl, etc.; and adjacent two of R 7 to R 10 may be taken together to form a 5- or 6-membered ring. In formula (IV), M' is Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Mn, etc.; and R 11 to R 26 are each hydrogen, nitro, -NRR' (R and R' are each C1-C4 alkyl), etc.
