摘要： A Time-Of-Flight mass analyzer includes a multipole ion guide (16) located in the ion flight path between the ion source (1) and the flight tube (42) of the Time-Of-Flight mass analyzer. In one preferred embodiment, a Time-Of-Flight (TOF) mass analyzer is configured such that a multipole ion guide is positioned in the ion path between the ion source and the ion pulsing region (30) of the TOF mass analyzer. The multiple ion guide electronics and the ion guide entrance and exit electrostatic lenses (26, 27 and 28) are configured to enable the trapping or passing through of ions delivered from an atmospheric pressure ion source. The ion guide electronics can be set to select the mass to charge (m/z) range of ions which can be successfully transmitted or trapped in the ion guide. All or a portion of the ions with stable ion guide trajectories in transmission or trapping mode can then undergo Collisional Induced Dissociation (CID) using one of at least three techniques. The multipole ion guide is used for ion transmission, trapping and fragmentation can reside in one vacuum pumping stage (138) or can extend continuously into more than one vacuum pumping stage (18, 19).

摘要： A mass spectrometry method in which a combined field (comprising a trapping field and supplemental field) is established and at least one parameter of the combined field is changed to excite ions trapped in the combined field sequentially (such as for detection). The supplemental field is a periodically varying field having an off-resonance frequency, in the sense that the supplemental field frequency nearly matches (but differs from) a frequency of motion of an ion stably trapped by the trapping field alone. Sequential ion excitation in accordance with the invention can rapidly excite each ion to a degree sufficient for a desired purpose but insufficient for ejection from the trap. The amplitude of the supplemental field is kept sufficiently high to excite ions (via an off-resonance excitation mechanism) before they undergo resonant excitation.

摘要： A method for analyzing a sample that contains a plurality of lipid isomers is described that involves forming one or more lipid metal ion adducts and transporting the one or more lipid metal ion adducts through a differential mobility spectrometer to cause separation of the one or more lipid metal ion adducts from each other. The lipid isomers can be chosen, for example, from fatty acids, glycerolipids, glycerophospholipids, sphingolipids, saccharolipids, polyketides, sterol lipids, and prenol lipids. Particular examples include phosphatidylcholine regioisomers such as l-palmatoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-phosphatidylcholine (POPC) and l-oleoyl-2- palmatoyl-sn- phosphatidylcholine and triacylglycerols containg palmetic and oleic acid groups. The metal chosen can include a cationization reagent that contains sodium, potassium, silver or lithium.
