摘要： This leakage prevention seal is provided with: a first seal ring (40) which surrounds a rotating shaft (1) and which is in circumferential contact with the surface of a housing (2) which faces the upstream side; a second seal ring (50), which, on the upstream side of the first seal ring (40), surrounds the rotating shaft (1) and which is in circumferential contact with the first seal ring (40); and a heat-driven section which, when high-temperature pressurized water reaches the heat-driven section, reduces the diameter of both the first seal ring (40) and the second seal ring (50) and causes the inner peripheral surfaces (51) of both the first seal ring (40) and the second seal ring (50) to be in contact with the rotating shaft (1). The circumferential positions of both a first range between the first seal ring (40) and the rotating shaft (1) and a second range formed by the second seal ring (50) are different.

摘要： A mixer pump (47) used in a waste tank (49) for mobilizing high-level radioactive liquid waste having a column assembly (51) containing power cables (171), a motor housing (53) with electric motor means (57) which includes a stator can (69) of a stator assembly (59,61,63,69) and a rotor can (71) of a rotor assembly, and an impeller assembly (55) with an impeller (87) connected to a shaft (81) of the rotor assembly. The column assembly locates the motor housing with the electric motor means adjacent to the impeller which creates an hydraulic head, and which forces the liquid waste into the motor housing to cool the electric motor means and to lubricate radial (80,91) and thrust bearing (92) assemblies. Hard-on-hard bearing surfaces of the bearing assemblies and a ring assembly between the impeller and electric motor means act to grind down large particles in the liquid waste flow. These larger particles are received in slots (88) in the static bearing members of the radial bearing assemblies. Only solid waste particles smaller than the clearances in the system can pass therethrough, thereby resisting damage to and the interruption of the operation of the mixer pump.

The variable level suction device comprises an hydraulic housing and a telescoping pipe assembly comprising several pipe sections and mounted alongside the support column of the transfer pump. The telescoping innermost pipe section has a suction inlet, and the outermost telescoping pipe section is welded to the hydraulic housing which encloses an impeller assembly of either a submersible canned motor transfer pump or a lineshaft transfer pump. Suction ports in the hydraulic housing are located adjacent to the impeller assembly. Selective operation of the suction ports and the telescoping pipe sections allows the liquid waste to be suctioned either from the bottom of the waste tank or from a selected level in the waste tank between a free surface and a level near the suction inlet of the innermost pipe section of the telescoping pipe assembly.

摘要： Fuel bundles of a boiling-water nuclear reactor are inverted during refueling methods. Bundles burned in a first orientation are subjected to greater burnup near their bottoms and greater conversion of fertile fuel to fissile fuel near their tops. Inverting the bundles promotes burnup of the actinide products from the conversion of the last cycle. Thus, the procedure greater energy production efficiency and reduced actinide radioactive waste are achieved. Once inverted fuel bundles can be removed for disposal. Alternatively, they can be reinverted to burnup actinide fissile fuel generated at the bottom (while it was downstream of the top) during the second operating cycle. Further inversions are provided for, but the major gains occur during the first and second inversions.
