摘要： A fuel assembly handling tool that can be lowered onto the top nozzle of a fuel assembly, positively latch the top nozzle, unlatch from the top nozzle, and be raised off the top nozzle of the fuel assembly. The tool head, that interfaces with the top nozzle has load bearing grippers that latch onto the fuel assembly, that are located in a storage position up within the tool while the tool is lowered onto the fuel assembly. The gripper fingers are then lowered into position during the latching process, and are raised back to the storage position during the unlatching process. In the storage position, the gripping fingers are spaced above the fuel assembly top nozzle when the tool head is resting on the nozzle.

摘要： In the method, a reference core design is generated based on a defined set of limits. The set of limits may include a target hot excess reactivity constraint to be satisfied over a given core energy cycle and a given desired control blade definition that is set for the cycle. A reference core design is generated based on the defined limits. A unique subset of fresh fuel bundles is subject to an iterative improvement process including replacing, at each fuel location, at least one of the current fresh fuel bundles with at least one of the selected fresh fuel bundles, and simulating reactor operation on the reference core design to obtain a plurality of outputs to be ranked based on the defined set of limits. The highest ranked output may represent an accepted core design with set control blade definition that satisfies the target hot excess reactivity constraint.

摘要： A method, arrangement and computer program is described for generating (S310) a database of selectable fresh fuel bundle designs usable in one or more nuclear reactors. In an example, an initial population of candidate fresh fuel bundle designs may be generated and a set of rod-type changes to make to a given candidate in the initial population may be established (S320). A given candidate fresh fuel bundle may be modified (S330) by making at least one rod-type change from the set therein. A core loaded with the modified bundle design may be simulated (S340) to generate bundle performance outputs. The bundle performance outputs may be ranked (S350) based on a plurality of user-input limits. The modified candidate fresh fuel bundle design may be stored (S360), if the bundle performance outputs meet, or are within an accepted margin to, the user-input limits, so as to generate (S400) the database.

In the initialization phase (100), an initial core loading arrangement is identified based on the relative reactivity levels of the bundles to be loaded and the reactor core locations. Once the initial core loading arrangement is identified, such arrangement is then optimized, within the defined constraints, in the running phase (200). More specifically, in the running phase (200), each core location is analyzed to determine whether such core location reactivity level can be changed from the initial reactivity level to either satisfy a constraint or optimize cycle energy, or both.

摘要： Fresh fuel bundles are inserted into core locations with small coolant flow orifices, while mid-life fuel bundles are inserted into core locations with large coolant flow locations. Thus, fissile fuel production is promoted at the expense of fissioning early in a bundle lifetime, increasing the effective quantity of fuel available for energy production. Moreover, fissioning is promoted at the expense of conversion later in the bundle lifetime to enhance reactivity of the remaining fissile material and to minimize the further production of fissile fuel. The net result is longer fuel lifetimes and reduced radioactive waste.
