摘要： A web printing press is provided with a plurality of printing units, each including a plate cylinder (30), an idling impression cylinder (38), and web metering roller (42) supported between the side walls of a frame. A motor driven primary line shaft (18) is supported on the frame, and extends along one of the side walls, and a first gearbox (58) is connected between the primary line shaft (18), and the plate cylinder (30) of each unit for transmitting rotation of the primary line shaft to the plate cylinder. A second gearbox (60) is connected between the primary line shaft and the web metering roller of each unit for transmitting rotation of the primary line shaft to the web metering roller (42). A motor driven secondary line shaft (24) is supported on the frame, and extends along one of the side walls adjacent the primary line shaft. The second gearbox (60) of each printing unit includes gearing connected to the secondary line shaft for trimming the speed of the web metering roller, relative to the speed of the primary line shaft upon rotation of the secondary line shaft.

摘要： A printer apparatus having two-sided printing capability is taught. Two printing mechanisms (14, 15) are provided that can simultaneously print both sides of roll paper (13). The printing mechanisms are physically oriented with respect to each other and to a simple paper handling/routing mechanism comprised of rollers so that when only one printing mechanism (14) is installed to provide only one-side printing, the paper handling mechanism need not be modified but the roll paper (13) is merely routed differently around the rollers. Retroactively, a second printing mechanism (15) may simply be installed in the printer for two-sided printing and the roll paper is routed around the rollers differently to route the roll paper to and from the second printing mechanism.

摘要： A method and apparatus for conversion of a web-fed letterpress unit (10) into a web-fed offset printing press unit (42) having a main frame (12) an internal support such as an internal auxiliary frame (44a, 44b) inside the main frame for receiving cylinders, a pair of offset plate cylinders (46 and 46a) for mounting printing plates thereon, an inking arrangement (16, 18 and 20) for applying films of ink to the plates, and a pair of blanket cylinders (48 and 48a) in close proximity to a position for respective rolling contact with the plates on the plate cylinder and the other blanket cylinder. An offset press gear train (54) is installed outside the frames with the shafts for the cylinders extended through bores (60b, 61b, 62b and 112) provided in the main frame. The offset unit also includes external support such as external auxiliary frame (45) affixed to the outside of the main frame between the main frame and the gear train. Eccentric sleeves (68a, 68b) are installed for bodily swinging cylinders between alternative positions. Eccentric sleeves (68b) on the side of the press unit with the external auxiliary frame extend from the internal auxiliary frame to the external auxiliary frame in one arrangement. In one arrangement, the internal and external supports include individual support brackets affixed to the frame which support offset cylinders including the related sleeves and bearings.
