    • The invention relates to a cutting method, machine and tools for the continuous machining of materials in machine-tools. The cutting tools with the capacity to orientate the tool with respect to the machining path are mounted in the machine-tool. The continuous machining is carried out with a single cutting edge selected and placed in position for machining. At any point during the machining, or when changing to another machining operation, the user can rapidly choose to place in position another of the cutting edges without having to change the tool. The calculation of the paths and rotations of the axes of the cutting tools is carried out by means of a piece of software external to the machine and sent to a numerical control machine (CNC) for the arrangement and control of the movements of the carriages and the rotations of the corresponding axes.

    • A blade position registering apparatus (60) registers the positions of blades of turning process tools (40, 45) for a combined lathe apparatus having a tool holder (40) and tool spindle (25) having an axis (X-axis) which is inclined with respect to a horizontal line (Yt) by a predetermined angle θ which is greater than zero degree and less than or equal to 90 degrees. A reference point (PS) is provided on the axis (X-axis) of the tool spindle, the blade position registering apparatus (60) comprises:blade position inputting means (160) for inputting a first tool length (Ca) which is an amount of offset by which the blade of a horizontal turning process tool (40, 45) is offset from the reference point (PS) along the Z axis - being the axis of the workpiece (W) - , a second tool length (Cb) which is an amount of offset by which the blade of the horizontal turning process tool (40, 45) is offset from the reference point (PS) along a horizontal line (Yt) which is perpendicular to the Z axis, a third tool length (Cc) which is an amount of offset by which the blade of the horizontal turning process tool (40, 45) is offset from the reference point (PS) along a vertical line, a fourth tool length (B) which is an amount of offset by which the blade of a tool for turning in a X-axis-Z-axis plane is offset from the reference point (PS) along an axis being the Z-axis which is perpendicular to the tool spindle axis being the X-axis, and a fifth tool length (a) which is an amount of offset by which the blade of the tool for turning in a X-axis-Z-axis plane is offset from the reference point (PS) along the X-axis. These length values are then saved in storage means (140).
