    • The invention relates to a method for operating a water treatment system comprising multiple containers (1, 2) which can be operated in parallel and each of which is fitted with a water treatment element with a base capacity and comprising valves (3, 5) for adjusting partial volume flows of water to be treated flowing through the containers (1, 2). Each container (1, 2) is found either in a normal mode or in a regeneration mode, wherein at least one of the containers (1, 2) is always found in the normal mode, and a regeneration process of the water treatment element is initiated when the residual capacity of said water treatment element falls below a regeneration threshold (9).
